Suitable for most fitness levels; requires stable footing for short wet/rocky sections
Short, blue pools and a 25‑metre drop wait in the gorge at Polilimnio. This half‑day hike in Messinia pairs easy trails and cool swims with an archery session and a picnic of local products.
You drop from the village road into a green throat of rock and water: a narrow gorge where streams braid into stepped pools and waterfalls. The path follows the murmuring channels, each pool a different tone of blue, and the biggest fall—Kadi—splits cleanly from a limestone lip to crash 25 metres into a turquoise bowl. The air smells of wet stone and oregano; water dares you to cool down.

Expect wet stones and short scrambling sections—light hiking boots or sport sandals with grip reduce slip risk.
Keep electronics and a dry change of clothes sealed—swims and spray are part of the route.
Visit early or late to avoid crowds and high sun; late afternoon gives warm light on the pools.
No soaps in the water and pack out food waste—these pools are ecologically sensitive.
The Polilimnio area supplied water to local mills and fields; its stepped pools are the result of limestone erosion and centuries of rural water management.
The pools are ecologically sensitive—avoid soaps, limit group size, and stick to marked trails to protect aquatic life and fragile banks.
Provide traction on wet stones and short rock scrambles.
For cooling off in Kadi and Mavrolimna pools.

Useful in spring or unsettled weather when temperatures drop near shade and water.
