About

Hiking to the Vortex just outside of St George is a great half day option for anyone interested in a scenic hike that is both family and dog friendly. Huge views of Signal and Square Top peaks and you can see for miles with great photo potential. Dive time from downtown St George to this location is about 30 minutes and a fairly scenic drive in it's own right. Hiking time is about 2 hours and because of it's elevation it can be hot in the summertime but Spring Fall and Winter is the most ideal. Location is about 1000 feet above St George and tips out around 4400 feet in elevation and has the Red and Orange sandstone like you find in Vermilion Cliffs or Zion Park. The Vortex trail is actually part of the Old Spanish Trail of the 1800's and has a feeling of an orange version of the Checkerboard Mesa in Zion National Park. Tour fee is $99 per adult and kids under 12 are half price.
