The self-guided Grewingk Glacier Hike in Kachemak Bay State Park is a must-do for any outdoor enthusiast visiting the Homer, Alaska area. This moderate, six-mile round-trip hike takes you through stunning old-growth forests, over crystal-clear streams and past turquoise blue lakes, all leading up to the awe-inspiring Grewingk Glacier. Along the way, you'll have the opportunity to spot wildlife such as moose, eagles, and bears. The payoff at the end of the hike is the breathtaking glacier, which towers above you in all its glory. The Grewingk Glacier Hike is a truly unforgettable experience that showcases the incredible natural beauty of Alaska.

You have two options for booking:

8:00am - 1:00pm | Glacier Spit Trailhead to Saddle Trailhead

  • Distance: 4.7 miles from Glacier Spit Trailhead to Saddle Trailhead (no detour to the hand tram), OR 6.7 miles from Glacier Spit Trailhead to Saddle Trailhead with visiting the hand tram

  • We'll depart from the Homer Harbor at 8:00am and drop you off at the Glacier Spit Trailhead. You'll start on the Glacier Lake Trail. You can choose to take the out and back Grewingk Tram Spur Trail and pull yourself across the hand tram, then head back to the Glacier Lake Trail until you reach Grewingk Glacier Lake. Finally, you'll make your descent down Saddle Trail to get picked up.

12:15pm - 5:30pm | Saddle Trailhead to Saddle Trailhead

  • Distance: 3 miles

  • We'll depart from the Homer Harbor at 12:15pm and drop you off at the SaddleTrailhead. You'll start on the Saddle Trail. You'll hike up switchbacks until the trail intersects with Glacier Lake Trail. You'll follow this trail until you reach Grewingk Glacier Lake. When you are ready to return, you'll make your descent down Saddle Trail to get picked up.

Please note that the Grewingk Glacier Hike on the AllTrails site is a different route.

Additionally, in order to keep our trips cost-effective, we need to book at least three passengers on each trip. If your reservation is for fewer than three people, and there are no other passengers signed up for that time slot, there is a chance we will need to move your reservation. If that’s the case we will call you to coordinate.
