6–8 hours
Good aerobic fitness with experience on sustained uphill and varied terrain; ability to hike 10–14 km with 400–600 m ascent.
A full-day trek from Ushuaia into the Martial range leads to Laguna de los Témpanos and the crevassed edge of Vinciguerra Glacier. Expect peat bogs, lenga forest, and glacier views on an 8‑hour, moderately demanding route.
The day begins before the city wakes, a short transfer north from Ushuaia up the spine of the Martial range. Wind strips the harbor of its calm, and as the minivan climbs toward Andorra Valley the landscape opens: acid-green peat bogs give way to corridors of lenga—gnarled beech that lean into the wind like old sailors—and then to the higher, rockier basin of the Milk River.

Trails are often muddy and the glacier approach can be wet—bring a waterproof shell, waterproof boots with good traction, and gaiters.
Expect peat, rocks, snow and ice; microspikes or crampons may be required depending on conditions—ask the guide on departure.
Carry 1–2 liters of water and eat your box lunch on the glacier-side break to maintain energy for the return climb.
This is a long day (6–8 hours); aim for an early pickup and avoid hiking in late afternoon when weather and visibility can deteriorate.
Ushuaia developed as a penal colony and maritime hub; the Martial Range and Vinciguerra record both glacial shaping and human use for sheep grazing and exploration.
Glacial retreat is visible year-to-year here; stick to marked trails, pack out all waste, and follow guide instructions to minimize erosion and disturbance.
Essential for muddy trails and glacier approaches with wet snow or meltwater.
Retains warmth during exposed sections and glacier breaks.
May be required on icy glacier surfaces—guide will advise and provide instruction.
