About

Our full day east side tour is our longest and most popular tour that we offer. It has 2 main pickup locations to choose from, based on where you are staying. It covers areas both on the Blackfeet Reservation, as well as a significant portion of Going to the Sun Road inside Glacier National Park. While on tour, enjoy a captivating experience from one of our local Blackfeet guides, who will provide an interpretation throughout the day (don’t be afraid to ask questions!). A lunch stop is provided, but will be on your own. Logan Pass and the Continental Divide is included. Please refer to the tour map for the exact route.

Itinerary

This tour starts from the high plains and covers an incredible area that is home to over 1500 species of plants, as well as multitudes of North American free-roaming wildlife, some of which include elk, deer, moose, antelope, black bears, and grizzly bears.

Our two designated pickup locations are the Glacier Park Lodge and the Glacier Peaks Hotel. From there, we make our way across the Blackfeet Reservation towards the east entrance to Glacier National Park in St. Mary. Depending on the day, the route from East Glacier may travel on HWY 2, or over the scenic bypass known as Looking Glass Highway (HWY 49).

The bus typically makes a brief stop at the St. Mary Visitor Center for a bathroom break and photos before starting on Going to the Sun Road. Once along the road, the tour parallels the upper St. Mary Lake and eventually winds up the mountain to the top of the Continental Divide and Logan Pass. If time allows, the bus also may travel down the west side towards a popular scenic overlook known as Big Bend and the Weeping Wall. Photos and views from this stop are breathtaking. This is the furthest the tour may go before turning around and heading back up the mountain to the Logan Pass Visitor Center, which is our longest stop at about 20-30 minutes (not including lunch).

Enjoy the highest elevation along Going to the Sun Road, vistas looking both east and west, the Continental Divide sign, and the upper walking area above the Visitor Center, which is also the start to the Hidden Lake Overlook trail. Once everyone has reboarded, the tour travels back down the east side and exits the Park at the St. Mary area for an hour lunch stop.

After lunch, the tour continues across the stunning open plains of the Blackfeet Reservation towards Browning, the heart of the Reservation. If time allows, the bus sometimes stops at the Museum of the Plains Indian, which is highly regarded (please note, the museum entrance fee is minimal, but on your own), before returning to your original pickup location for the conclusion of the tour.

EARLY SEASON (June 1st - end of June dates are variable)

  • Our Full-Day East side tour in the early season covers the Going to the Sun Road as far as it is OPEN. Typically, it fully opens at the end of June, but this is not guaranteed due to weather conditions. Feel free to visit our homepage where you can click the ”Road Status” link, and it will bring you to the NPS website with a live look at how far the road is open.
  • Because of this, our early season tour will typically be a little shorter in time or cover less of Going to the Sun Road. We typically add extra stops to make up for this difference. Please keep this in mind when booking within this time frame.

Highlights

  • Our main stops along the Going to the Sun Road may include: Lake McDonald Overlook, Lake McDonald Lodge, Red Rocks, Trail of the Cedars, Road Camp, Birdwoman Falls, the Weeping Wall, Big Bend, and the Oberlin Boardwalk.
  • Logan Pass and the Visitor Center is a guaranteed stop.
  • Please keep in mind, no other stops are guaranteed due to traffic, construction, wildlife, group size, and weather.

Please Note

An adult must be booked in order for children and infants to be selected.

ADA If someone in your party requires wheelchair assistance, please contact us in advance for accommodation.
