About

We typically meet at 8:30 a.m., however, please check in a few days in advance to check arrival time. Morning temperatures can sometimes affect our arrival times.

Our full-day float fishing trips are typically 6-7 hrs on the water. Fly-Fishing and white water rafting are combined in a unique section of water on the Salmon River. Our specialized fishing boats can access this remote section of the river allowing guest a bounty of Cutthroat trout.

Our boats can accommodate two anglers. Drift boats are used in optimum fishing conditions; otherwise, we use specially designed rafts with fishing frames. Headwater’s Fly-Fishing guides provide you with a knowledgeable, professional guide to ensure a great day of fishing the Salmon River.

We are exactly what our name states “Headwater’s Fly-Fishing Guides” specializing in fishing the headwaters of the Salmon River north of Sun Valley, Idaho. In these waters, you will find Rainbow trout, Bull trout, Salmon, and Westslope Cutthroat trout. These waters provide for excellent dry-fly fishing. The Salmon River is not a trophy trout stream, but a fish factory producing fish averaging 13-16 inches and heavier trout in the 20 in range.

Your fishing trip at a glance!

From our headquarters, your guide will drive you a brief distance to the Salmon River boat ramp, where we will have a short safety speech and we will discuss the features of our specialized fishing boats with you.

At that point, you will enjoy over 9 miles (mostly accessible only by boat) of pristine fly-fishing. The Salmon River holds a variety of species, mostly cutthroat trout, rainbow trout, and bull trout all of which you can expect to catch. Enjoy the day, expand your knowledge of fishing with our guides and we will see back at our headquarters.

We request that you arrive for your trip around 8:00 a.m. (Trip start times may vary due to fishing and or weather conditions, please call for updated details)

Numbers

Drift boats or fishing rafts can accommodate two angler per boat.

Clothing & Gear

Our fishing trips start in the early in the day so we advice bringing a warm jacket to fend of mountain morning temperatures. We also advise bringing a rain jacket just in case. Please stay away from cotton clothing, cotton gets wet and stays wet and may ultimately effect the enjoyment of your trip. Wet wadding is advice (no waders needed) sneakers, shorts, hats, sunglasses, sunscreen and a long sleeve t-shirt are recommend for warm summer days. All fishing gear is provided but we do suggest bring your favorite rod along with you. Dry bags are also on board the boats to stow any gear you may want to bring along.

Weather

We'll fish as long as there isn't hazardous lightning, but ultimately it’s up to you. If you are not comfortable with what Mother Nature is offering and would like to reschedule or cancel, (even the morning of the trip) we have a 100 % money back policy, no questions asked.
