Join this immersive 8-week course to master the art of flameworking with borosilicate glass. Under the expert guidance of Wesley Thurston, you'll learn essential techniques and safety practices, culminating in the creation of your own multi-component sculpture. Unleash your creativity and transform glass into stunning art!
8 weeks (3 hours per week) Sundays, May 25 - July 13 1:00 - 4:00 pm
In this class students will start with the fundamentals of flameworking including how to safely control and manipulate borosilicate glass. They will learn basic tool and equipment use, flame chemistry, heat base, seals, bridging, color application, and color techniques. Starting with simple sculpting techniques, the group will begin with basic sculptures. By the end of the 8 week class students will create their own multi component sculpture.
There is a non-refundable $100 deposit when booking multi-week classes. We allow cancellations up to 7 days before the start time of your class for a refund minus the $100 deposit. If you cancel less than 7 days before the start of your class, you will not receive a refund.
Avoid synthetic fabrics as they can melt; cotton or wool are safer choices around flame.
Early arrival helps you get comfortable with the workspace and equipment before the session starts.
Reducing loose hair is important for safety when working near open flames.
Working near heat can dehydrate you, so drink plenty of water to stay refreshed.
