About

On this tour, you will have an opportunity to see what many would describe as the crown jewels of Yellowstone National Park. The Lower Loop tour brings you to many of the parks most iconic thermal features, such as Grand Prismatic Spring and Old Faithful. Wildlife viewing is always a possibility as well. This tour covers the most mileage out of our standard tour options. Travel restrictions apply.

Tour Itinerary

The Lower Loop tour begins in Gardiner, Montana and begins heading south. Depending on external conditions, guide recommendation, and client preference, we can head either way around the loop. That being said, generally we emphasize attempting to avoid areas of congestion in the summer months, and that will determine a better direction for our adventure. We have extensive experience in navigating popular features and making it easier to fit them into our itinerary. From here, we make our way to some incredible thermal features and many of the most popular thermal basins. After a morning of seeing all the different types of thermal features that exist in the park between the Midway and Lower Basins, we'll head to the most iconic feature in Yellowstone, Old Faithful.

After seeing the most famous geyser in the world erupt, the tour heads over Craig Pass and by Isa Lake. Here we cross over the Continental Divide, the backbone of North America. Continuing on, the next basin we come to is the West Thumb Geyser Basin. It lies on the shore of Yellowstone Lake and, more specifically, the West Thumb of the Lake. From West Thumb, we will make our way north along the shoreline of Yellowstone Lake, passing nearby Fishing Bridge and following the Yellowstone River until we reach Mud Volcano, a thermal basin with unique structure and history.

The Yellowstone River leads to Hayden Valley, where some of the best wildlife viewing in the park is possible. Following Hayden Valley, the river makes two large falls of 109 and 308 feet, respectively. They are the Upper and Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River, with the Lower Falls being the primary attraction between the two. This is partly because the Lower Falls offers the ability to see the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone while viewing the falls. This spectacular scenery will be a cherry on top of an amazing day filled with some of Yellowstone's greatest hits. As the tour returns to Gardiner, Montana, additional destinations may be available.
