About

Throughout the year, the offshore waters of the Santa Barbara Chanel yield some of the most sought-after sightings by nature enthusiasts. We constantly get reports of rare species or large groups of whales far offshore beyond the reach of most boaters. These places are extremely hard to get to as the weather and sea conditions can be wildly unpredictable. That being said, we aim to bring you to these mysterious waters with our extended trips. We don't get to explore the outer islands often but when the right weather windows present themselves, we're keen to take advantage.

What Should I Bring?

Be sure to bring warm clothes, sun protection (sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat), a camera, and a smile ready for adventure! Also smart to pack water and a lunch. We have a restroom on board and a cooler for drinks and food.

What to wear?

Dress WARM! Even in the summer, temperatures on the water are at least 15 degrees colder than on land. Definitely wear long pants, close-toed shoes, layers, and a wind/water-resistant jacket.

We do have windproof/ waterproof blankets onboard for everyone for extremely chilly days

What will we see?

While we are always at the mercy of mother nature, and some trips may see more than others, below is our TARGET for extended trips.

RARE SPECIES

Rare species like killer whales, sperm whales, and others utilize the outer waters of the Santa Barbara Channel throughout the year. While still exceedingly rare, getting out to the offshore ledges increases our chances of seeing such hard-to-find animals.

LARGE GROUPS OF BALEEN WHALES

While large baleen whales like humpbacks and blue whales love the inner channel, they also congregate in huge numbers by the outer islands or off the continental shelf. Being surrounded by 50 to 100-foot giants is like no other, and is always a memorable experience.

OUTER ISLANDS

The outer islands of the Channel Islands National Park evoke a sense of wonder, curiosity, and adventure to those lucky enough to see them. While nearly 40 million people live in California, a small fraction have ever seen these wondrous islands.
