Go an an adventure by yourselves through the new Northern Rivers Rail Trail & through the rainforest & cane fields beyond to Husk Distillery at Tumbulgum while enjoying some of the best cycling, views and refreshment the region as to offer.
The new Northern Rivers Rail Trail, is a 25km purpose built walking & bike trail following the old railway line. It weaves through the varied landscapes of the Tweed hinterland with cane fields, rainforest, open fields and multiple river & creek crossings. It features many old railway bridges and tunnels (one 524m long with microbats and glowworms!)
There are plenty of places to have a snack or lunch along the way. Our favourites are The Barn in Burringbar, Hosanna Farmstay st Stokers Siding or Wild Thyme cafe in Murwillumbah. If you fancy a great breakfast, come early and enjoy breakfast in the garden at Moo Moo roadhouse.
For Art lovers you can also stop off at the Tweed Regional Art Gallery on the way and maybe have lunch on their balcony with amazing views to Wollombin at Apex Dining.
After Murwillumbah enjoy Urliup Rd, Bilambil & Duroby Reserve (my favourite ride in the whole region) a little traffic out of Muwillumbah and a few hills to climb then quiet backroads, amazing rainforest and a stunning descent through a nature reserve to the river on your way to Tumbulgum.
Once you arrive at Husk Farm Distillery, enjoy a legendary cheese platter and signature Ink Gin & tonic or any number of great cocktails in their beautiful grounds
To whisk you along your way you will have the assistance of a high quality German made FOCUS or KALKHOFF E Bike. The route is half off road and half on road (one small section out of Murwillumbah has some traffic). It is mostly flat apart from two hills after Murwillumbah, but the e bike makes hill climbing a breeze!
We set you up with an E Bike, helmet, hi viz backpack and a map on your phone (you need to download the RideWithGPS app) and off you go.
