Your trip
The boat departs at Reen Pier* near Ross Castle at 11am and takes you to Lord Brandons Cottage (1h 30 minutes).

Please allow 2.5 to 3 hours to hike through the Gap.
It is 7 miles (12km) in length.
The terrain is hilly and picturesque.
The highest elevation is 840ft
If you wish, feel free to bring your own picnic lunch
*If you choose to do the tour in reserve you will start your journey at Kate Kearney's Cottage in the Gap of Dunloe (Eircode: V93 AWR8). The boat will depart from Lord Brandon's Cottage at 2 pm and you will return to Reen Pier near Ross Castle at approximately 3:30 pm.

Weather conditions:
Please wear comfortable footwear and bring a rain jacket and/or sunblock, you will need one or the other or both!
Weather can change quickly in the mountains, so pack layers to stay comfortable throughout the hike.
There are limited water sources along the trail—bring a sufficient supply for the 7-mile hike.
The rocky path requires good footwear for traction and ankle support.

The Gap of Dunloe has been traversed since ancient times and is linked to Celtic legends involving warriors like Lóegaire.
