Join us every Friday & Sunday for the Old Town Literary Walking Tour, a stroll through downtown Key West, illuminating stories of writers that have called our island home. Inspired by David A. Kaufelt’s original literary walking tour, our new tour features the former homes and favorite haunts of writers, including Tennessee Williams, Shel Silverstein, Elizabeth Bishop, and Robert Frost, and highlights tales of our lesser-known local talent.
Tours commence in front of the Monroe County Public Library, 700 Fleming Street (between Elizabeth and William Streets) in Key West and last approximately 90 minutes. Please be on time and wear comfortable shoes.
The tour covers cobblestone streets in Old Town, so sturdy, comfortable shoes will make your experience more enjoyable.
Florida’s warm climate means staying hydrated during your 90-minute walk is important.
The tour runs only on Sundays and Wednesdays; booking ahead ensures availability.
Arrive 10-15 minutes early to explore nearby historic landmarks before the tour begins.
Key West’s literary legacy is closely tied to Ernest Hemingway, who lived on the island during the 1930s, influencing his work and the island’s cultural identity.
