About The Back Run paddle in campsites near Gilmore Mills area. This Riverfront primitive camp area are available for paddle-in ONLY for customers doing an overnight river trip, not generally accessible by vehicles.
By river, it is located 15.5 miles downstream of Buchanan, and 5 miles below Alpine boat landing on river left. Located off State route 708 (Gilmore Mills Road) near Natural Bridge Station. The property is 6 miles above the Glasgow boat landing.
Each campsite contains a picnic table, fire ring, level gravel tent area. The campground also has a group river access area, & porta potty. No dumpster, water, or utilities are available. Customers are required to bring in their own water and pack out their trash.
**Address: ** Turn on Gilmore Mill Road (state route 708) Go to the 1000 block, take a right across the rail road tracks on a private road called James River Trail. Once over the rail road, enter gate, and take a left. Go to end of the field.

Since the campsite is accessible only by paddle craft, study river currents and avoid trying to reach the site during high water or storm conditions.
There’s a fire ring, but wood is not provided, so either bring firewood or gather deadwood sustainably without harming live trees.
The primitive nature of the campsite means no waste facilities—carry out your trash to keep the area pristine.
