Details

This unique experience allows day-trippers to explore scenic Hailstorm Creek without having to worry about paddling on the big lake. The Opeongo water taxi transports people and canoes (or kayaks) safely from our Lake Opeongo store to the heart of Algonquin Park in just 20 minutes, then returns to pick you up at a prearranged time.

The wide, placid creek winds through a beautiful wetland where wildlife viewing opportunities abound, particularly for moose. You’ll spend your time exploring the Hailstorm Creek Nature Reserve, enjoying being out in nature and some unique scenery. Don’t miss out on this special trip – the paddling is not strenuous, navigation is easy and this experience can be enjoyed by beginner and expert paddlers alike. Don’t forget to bring along your camera or video camera and capture the moment as you round the bend and, for possibly the first time, see a moose, beaver, otter, heron or loon in its natural habitat.

Adventure Tips

Bring binoculars for wildlife spotting

The wetlands are home to elusive moose and otters—binoculars enhance your chances of spotting them from a distance.

Wear quick-dry clothing

Paddling through wetlands can lead to splashes; quick-dry fabrics keep you comfortable throughout the trip.

Reserve your spot early

Water taxi seats and canoe rentals fill fast during peak season, so booking ahead guarantees your adventure.

Prepare for insects

Bring insect repellent to keep biting bugs at bay while you enjoy the natural surroundings in Algonquin’s wetlands.
