About

Drive your team for 6-7 miles through the backcountry.

Meeting Place: The meeting place will be confirmed at least a few days in advance of the tour. We pick the trail based on snow conditions.

Mountain Paws does NOT provide a shuttle service.

We only take out 2 sleds per tour for a maximum of 4 adults. Driving your own team of dogs is the best way to experience the sport. A professional guide will accompany your tour for your safety as well as for the safety of the dogs.

The experience starts with an orientation and driving instruction. Then you can be involved with all aspects of the tour such as setting up the equipment, harnessing and getting to know your team. The whole experience usually lasts approximately 2.5 hours.

Two Adults Per Sled: One driver & one passenger. (2 small children = 1 adult) For an additional surcharge ($120) the sled can be reserved for just one driver.

The Teams: A team of 5-8 Alaskan Huskies pulls the sled.

Weight Limits

  • There is a 400 pound weight limit per sled. If any one person weighs more than 220 pounds (female) or 250 pounds (male), please call to discuss whether this tour is appropriate for you. A certain amount of physical fitness is required to drive the sleds.
  • Along the way, we will stop to switch drivers (if desired) and to take beautiful pictures.
  • Afterwards, there will be time to warm up with a hot drink and homemade goodies.

What to Wear:

  • Please dress warmly! You will enjoy your adventure much more. Since you will be outside for multiple hours, it is essential to come over-prepared. Dress in layers. Bring extra clothing. If you are hot, layers can be taken off and stored in the sled. Keeping your hands and feet warm is essential. Be sure to have well insulated winter boots. Warm glove liners are important when working with the dogs. (Ski gloves are too thick.) Once you are on the trail, you will want to wear the warm ski gloves or mittens. Consider bringing hand and foot warmers, which are air activated and can be put into your mittens and boots.

Additional Suggestions:

  • Warm ski jacket with hood
  • Warm snow pants
  • Fleece or wool hat
  • A scarf or neck protection
  • Warm (preferably wool) socks. (Multiple layers of socks are not helpful!)

COVID-19 Mountain Paws is compliant with the Colorado & CDC health and sanitation guidelines for outfitters. Come & enjoy natural distancing in the beautiful outdoors!
