This is an alternative to the usual Athens food tours! Relaxed, laid back, informal and magical. In fact, it is very unlike the more traditional city tours you may be used to.
We will take a leisurely walk to the centre of Athens, showing you the popular fish and meat market, where your food trail begins. Here you can soak up the incredible aromas and vibrant colours of the spice market. As you wander through this area, you will find yourself mesmerized by the hustle and bustle of the fresh fish, meat and fruit markets. You will be in among it all, with the lively street vendors selling their wares. These markets provide a real treat for your senses!
Your tour will then move on to the buzzing neighborhood of Psirri. Centred around its main Iroon Square, you’ll be captivated by the surrounding streets with bars, traditional tavernas and other eateries offering Meze and live music! Look out for musicians playing Rembetika, which is a type of Greek blues.
There are some wonderful artisan shops to be found in Psirri and you will visit a typical Athenian taverna, offering an enticing variety of local food and traditional Greek dishes. Here you will indulge your taste buds with various Meze dishes. Athens has an abundance of cafes and family run tavernas open ‘til late, where you’ll experience the genuine warmth of Greek culture!
