Originally “Number 2” until the 1970s, was one of the eight log cabins hired by Jim Harris to be constructed by a Swedish carpenter in the 1930’s for $60 a piece. Legend has it he worked through the winter. It was rebuilt by Larry and Maggie Bratcher, and then Doc and Joan Harding in the 1970s. This cabin served as a schoolhouse for children living in Burgdorf during the winter. The history of the name is lost, but we are sure you can come up with your own story. It is winterized, has one queen bed, and accommodates two guests.
Our cabins at Burgdorf are simple and rustic. Remember they are sparsely furnished log cabins, so you need to come prepared. In each cabin, you can expect a wood-burning stove for heat and bed with a recently purchased mattress and mattress cover, a clean sheet upon which to place your desired bedding or sleeping bag, as well as a table and chairs. The cabins do not have electricity or water. Outhouses are close by and firewood is on the porch. All cabins are within walking distance of the office and pool area. The surrounding area is scenic and natural. No pets allowed on property: Please leave your furry friends at home. Think camping with a cozy fire, in a clean cabin, with a bed.
The cabin provides rustic shelter without modern amenities, so packing your own supplies is essential.
Expect limited or no mobile reception; plan accordingly for safety and communication.
The area around the cabin has uneven ground; sturdy footwear is recommended for safety.

The Derail cabin originally served as a one-room schoolhouse before becoming part of the Burgdorf Hot Springs retreat, reflecting early 20th-century pioneer life.
