Full day
We will pick you up from your accommodation in Edinburgh and cross over the Firth of Forth towards the Kingdom of Fife visiting some of the most beautiful villages in Scotland.
We start our adventure at Falkland Palace and one of its most famous royal residents – Mary, Queen of Scots – was enchanted with the palace, and took advantage of Falkland’s vast estate to pursue falconry and hunting, while also enjoying a game of tennis in what is now the oldest surviving real (or royal) tennis court in the world.
Inspired by the grand châteaux of France, in the 16th century James IV and his son, James V, transformed this favoured retreat of the royal Stuarts – the palace became one of the finest examples of Renaissance architecture in Scotland.
Our next stop is in St Andrews, Scotland’s world-famous Home of Golf. It is also known for its historic university, medieval streets and gorgeous traditional buildings. The town is filled with exciting things to see and do, from St Andrews Cathedral and the castle to the renowned Old Course which dates back to the 16th century.
After lunch we will take you to Darnley’s Gin cottage for a guided tasting, talk and tour. During your session, before you sample a selection of four gins, you’ll learn about the Darnley’s story, meet ‘Dorothy’ the 350 litre copper still and hear all about the history of gin and the botanicals that are selected to make the award winning spirit.
Our final location of the day will take us to the beautiful fishing village called Pittenweem. A bustling town, Pittenweem is an active port and has a fish market every morning, plenty of shops to browse in, and a good selection of pubs and restaurants. Visitors flock to enjoy the lively atmosphere and traditional charm of the place, and its houses with the Dutch style crow-stepped gables. Get yourself an ice cream and walk along the sandy beaches and admire the stunning views of the Firth of Forth.
