(Meeting by 1.55PM latest) a walking tour of South William Street, including a visit to the Rococo and Neo-classical ceilings at the Powerscourt Townhouse, then on to main event at the the Irish Georgian Society next door, and the current exhibition there of 18th and 19th century landscapes, with a private art tour led by curator William Laffan and Arran Henderson. Tour departs King St by 2PM sharp, full tour runs to 4.10PM
A unique, one-off tour. We will meet a the Luke Kelly statue on King Street, and briefly discuss South William Street, before visiting the Powerscourt Townhouse. Here we will discuss its history, in particular its unique, transitional 18th century plaster-work among other features. From there, we visit the Irish Georgian Society next door. Here we will meet the director of the Society, and view the wonderful, Georgian-era Octagon Room, the oldest purpose built art anywhere gallery in Britain or Ireland We will also briefly view an interesting collection of portrait paintings, hung nearby, in the top-lit landing area. Our excursion concludes upstairs in the O'Connell Room, with the highlight of our trip: a fascinating private art tour - jointly led by curator William Laffan and Arran Henderson- discussing the current exhibition of 18th and 19th century landscapes there.
Please note due to the smaller numbers and the mostly internal nature of this tour, we will not be using audio equipment. Please note that unfortunately, there is currently no wheelchair access to the O'Connell room. There are only stairs, no lift or ramp.
