After meeting your private professional tour guide, you we’ll take a journey back in time to the medieval period. Your local tour guide will describe how the battles and sieges fought by the Knights of St. John shaped the town we see today. You’ll see medieval monuments and walk along the famous Street of the Knights, the best-preserved medieval street in Europe. Our tour will continued at the 14th century Palace of the Grand Master, once home to the leader of the Knights of St. John of Rhodes. Today, it’s a museum housing medieval furniture, elaborate mosaics, and archaeological exhibits from Rhodes. After our visit to the Palace of the Grand Master our tour will end at the Archaeological Museum of Rhodes, which is housed in the medieval Gothic with Renaissance elements building of the Knights Hospital, a building that the Great Magistert De Lastic began to build on the ruins of a Roman building in 1440 and was completed fifty years later by the Great Magister Pierre D'Aubusson (1489). The museum's collections include finds from excavations from the Italian occupation and more recent excavations in Rhodes and the rest of the Dodecanese from the Mycenaean, Geometric, Classical and Hellenistic periods, as well as monumental sculpture from the Roman period, which aim to highlight and understand the ancient history of Rhodes.
