Depart to one of the most emblematic places south of our city full of folklore, flavors, history and colors with its trajineras. Xochimilco in the Nahuatl language means “place of flower sowing” it was declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity on December 11, 1987 by UNESCO.
To begin, we will know Coyocán, a famous district for the charm of its streets, alleys and emblematic places, surrounded by colonial houses, cultural centers, restaurants, bookstores, art galleries, museums and craft houses.
Admire and photograph the atrium door of the Plaza de Coyoacán with a double arch, built in the mid-16th century as the sculptures of the coyotes in the plaza, surrounded by craftsmen who weave bracelets and make earrings or textiles.
Then you will enjoy a walk through the canals of the majestic Xochimilco in the traditional trajinera full of colors that are distinguished by their ornaments in flowers glistening the name of a lady.
At the end we come back to the hotel and end our services.
Note: Suitable for adults and children who can take long walks.
Expect a good amount of walking on uneven cobblestone streets and gentle boat rides, so sturdy, comfortable footwear will elevate your experience.
The trajineras offer little shade; pack a hat and sunscreen to stay protected during the canal boat portion of the tour.
Carrying water is advised, especially given Mexico City's dry climate and the length of the tour.
Local artisans and food vendors along the route often accept cash only, making it handy for souvenirs and snacks.
Xochimilco’s canal system dates back to pre-Hispanic times and represents an extraordinary surviving example of indigenous water management, recognized by UNESCO since 1987.
Efforts to preserve Xochimilco focus on protecting the fragile ecosystem of chinampas and waterways, encouraging sustainable tourism and local environmental stewardship.
Essential for navigating cobblestone streets and extended walking.
Provides shade during sunny canal rides and outdoor stops.
