The State of SC was the 1st to secede on Dec. 20, 1860. General Beauregard was the Confederate commander of Charleston Harbor for two years. The city of Charleston was bombarded for 587 days during the last two years of the war. Learn what life was like for the occupants of the city during and after the war. Visit the Edmond-Alston House where Beauregard watched the 34 hour bombardment of Fort Sumter. You can also take a tour of the Magnolia Cemetery where the three submarine Hunley crews are buried.
