No Experience Required

You step out of the air-conditioned van and the low, humid air of Negombo hits the back of your neck — fish markets calling, lagoon reedbeds creaking like a slow metronome. Over five days that same warm air will rise and thin, trading humidity for cool mountain mist as you move inland: limestone caves painted with ochre Buddha figures in Dambulla, an ancient fortress rising like a flat-topped island at Sigiriya, the temple bells and incense in Kandy, and finally the green terraces and mist-scrubbed tea gardens above Nuwara Eliya.
