Good steady walking fitness; able to handle 6–8 km with some uneven terrain and short stair sections
Step off the bus from Málaga and onto a narrow plankway carved into 19th-century industrial history. This guided group tour takes you across the dramatic Caminito del Rey—an engineered boardwalk along the Gaitanes Gorge—combining geology, heritage, and close-up canyon views.
The bus peels away from Málaga and the city’s heat gives up to a raw, sun-baked limestone horizon. In an hour the landscape chisels itself into sharp profiles: jagged cliffs, terraces of scrub, and a river that has carved a narrow throat through the heart of Andalusia. You step out near El Chorro and the sound of the Guadalhorce River—low and persistent—pulls you toward the wooden and metal plankway clinging to the canyon wall.

Sport shoes with good tread are mandatory—no sandals or heels; metal walkways can be slippery when wet.
The walk is exposed and can be hot; sip regularly and carry a refillable bottle.
Morning departures have softer light and cooler temperatures—better for photos and comfort.
Walking sticks are not allowed on the Caminito for safety and space reasons.
Originally constructed in the 1860s to service dams and a railway, the Caminito’s walkways were rebuilt and reopened to preserve industrial heritage and improve safety.
Visitor numbers are managed and helmets/controlled access help protect both visitors and fragile cliff habitats; stay on the marked path and carry out all trash.
Required for traction on metal catwalks and uneven approaches.
Keeps you hydrated in the exposed gorge—no facilities along the boardwalk.
