Moderate fitness — able to walk 7–8 km on uneven surfaces and descend/ascend steps comfortably
Once one of the world’s most notorious cliff paths, Caminito del Rey is now a secure, 7.7 km traverse through the Gaitanes Gorge. This day trip from the Costa del Sol mixes dramatic viewpoints, hydroelectric history and practical logistics for a full-day adventure.
You step off the coach at the small cluster of buildings by El Chorro and the cliffside seems to inhale sharply — the gorge narrows, rock faces fold like pages, and the old walkway clings where feet once feared to go. For decades Caminito del Rey carried a reputation for danger; today the path is reconceived, steel and concrete bolstering carved limestone so visitors can walk where workers and mules once threaded a precarious route.

The activity start time differs from bus meeting times; reconfirm your pickup time and phone number the evening before.
The path includes metal walkways and stairs — sturdy trail shoes reduce slip risk and improve comfort.
Bring at least 1–2 liters and sun protection; shade is limited on exposed sections and heat can build quickly.
These items are prohibited on the walkway for safety and to avoid obstructing other visitors.
Built in the early 20th century to support hydroelectric projects and famously crossed by King Alfonso XIII in 1921, the path was restored and reopened to the public in 2015.
Visitor numbers are managed and strict rules keep people on the walkway to protect fragile cliff ecosystems; follow signage and avoid littering.
Provide traction on metal walkways, stairs and rocky approaches.
Keeps you hydrated on exposed sections; refill options are limited.
