Moderate — able to sit for extended periods, follow commands, and paddle intermittently.
Three hours of guided class II–III whitewater through Brown’s Canyon National Monument, framed by granite cliffs and cottonwood banks. This half-day Arkansas River run balances approachable thrills with big-mountain scenery — ideal for families and first-time rafters.
The first spray hits before you can hear the river’s voice — a cold, white hiss that pushes against the raft and wakes the limbs. Paddles dip in unison as the guide calls commands; rock walls narrow, and the current takes on a personality of its own, impatient and playful. Over the next three hours the Arkansas River threads through Brown's Canyon National Monument, delivering a concentrated dose of class II–III rapids framed by steep, exfoliated granite and cottonwood-lined banks.

Be at the meeting point 30 minutes before departure to get sized for helmets and life jackets and to hear the safety briefing.
River shoes or strapped sandals prevent lost footwear; no flip-flops — the river will take them.
Spring runoff can make water cold; bring a light fleece and quick-dry clothing you don’t mind getting wet.
Bring a waterproof case or a dry bag and a wrist strap; the best shots are taken from inside the raft.
Brown's Canyon was home to 19th-century miners and was designated a National Monument in 2015 to protect its river corridor and geologic features.
The Arkansas River corridor is sensitive to litter and erosion; operators advocate Leave No Trace and limit group impacts by using established launch sites and managing waste.
