Moderate fitness: able to ride uneven fire trail, handle short climbs and stand for viewpoint stops
Electric mountain bikes turn a dramatic Blue Mountains ridge into an accessible adventure: ride Burramoko Ridge to Baltzers Lookout and Hanging Rock, soak in the Grose Valley views, then loop back at your own pace. Expect easy navigation, raw cliff edges and about three hours of mountain air.
You push off from a small shop on Bathurst Road with the hum of a Merida e‑mountain bike beneath you and a map that promises open ridge and cliff-edge spectacle. The forest loosens quickly to a fire trail that rides the Burramoko Ridge; gum trees lean away as if giving you a view, and the motor eases climbs so you can look up often instead of down at your pedals.

Wear shoes with aggressive tread—lookout approaches and short downhill sections have loose sandstone and scree.
Carry 2+ liters of water and calorie-dense snacks; the e‑bike helps you climb but you’ll still sweat and want reserves at the lookouts.
Hanging Rock and some viewpoints have no safety fences—stay a meter back if windy and don’t approach alone after rain.
You must present ID and a credit card at pickup and damage insurance/SPD pedal hire are available on the day.
Sandstone cliffs around the Grose Valley were carved over millions of years and the area is part of the traditional lands of the Gundungurra and Darug peoples.
Stick to fire trails and marked viewpoints to protect fragile sandstone vegetation; operators encourage 'leave no trace' and the region is sensitive to erosion and litter.
Good tread helps on loose sandstone around lookouts and on short descents.
Keeps water and snacks accessible without stopping—important on exposed ridge sections.
Wind can be strong on the ridge; a packable shell adds comfort during stops.
