Experience a captivating morning at the East Broad Top Railroad, where you'll witness the meticulous preparation of Locomotive No. 16. Guided by an expert, you'll explore the Roundhouse, engage with the engine crew, and enjoy exclusive photo opportunities, all while learning about the fascinating world of steam locomotives.
In railroad vernacular, a "Hostler" is the person responsible for getting a steam locomotive ready for the rails! You and a small group of visitors will be led by a knowledgeable guide who will take you behind the scenes with the engine crew while they inspect the locomotive, oil around, prepare the coal-fire, and all of the other tasks necessary for a full day of operation.
You'll also enjoy unique photo opportunities, learn more about the EBT's unique fleet of steam locomotives, and even take a tour of the cab!

Every reasonable effort is made to accommodate those with special requirements on guided shop tours. However, due to the historic nature of the facility, this tour is not wheelchair accessible. Please contact our ticket office PRIOR to booking if with any accessibility questions.
Note: Tours are two-and-one-half hours in duration and require long periods of walking and standing over several uneven surfaces, including gravel, grass, and train tracks.
Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled tour to complete waivers and hear the safety briefing at Orbisonia Station.
You'll be climbing steep ladders and standing for most of the tour; sturdy shoes will keep you safe and comfortable.
Bring only essential items like a jacket and camera; tripods and bulky gear are not allowed and hinder movement.
The tour runs rain, snow, or shine—dress in layers and bring rain protection during wet seasons.
