Launch your Alps to Ocean cycle adventure with Southern Lakes Helicopters’ unique heli bike transfers. Skip the long ride-in and soar above the Southern Alps directly to the trail’s edge.
Heli Bike Transfer
Our Heli bike transfers for the Alps to Ocean bike trail depart from our helicopter base at Aoraki/Mount Cook Airport. From there we will transfer you and your bike/gear across the Tasman River to Black Point “Rotten Tommy.” On the short journey you will enjoy stunning views off the braided Tasman river and surrounding Southern Alps. Once landed at Black Point you will continue your biking adventure on one of New Zealand’s most scenic bike trails.
Have you considered upgrading your bike transfer to a once in a lifetime experience with one of our Heli Bike & Flight combos?
We require a minimum of 2 full fares ($400) on our heli transfer flights but please contact us if you are a solo biker and we can look to add you to another flight ($200). We can carry a maximum of 6 bikers in one group and our custom designed bike crate will get any type including Berkel and E-bikes securely across the Tasman River.
Heli transfers accommodate only six riders per flight; book in advance to secure your spot.
Mountain weather is unpredictable—pack layers and waterproof gear for fluctuations during the flight and ride.
Your bike must fit within Southern Lakes Helicopters’ custom crate; confirm with the company if using an oversized or non-standard bike.
Give yourself time to receive safety instructions and gear storage guidance before your heli flight.
The Southern Alps have long been vital to the Ngāi Tahu iwi, whose legends tell of Aoraki, the mountain itself, shaping local identity and conservation efforts.
