Sightseeing Tour

The first light on day two slices through a wet canopy as the group files past the Marangu gate and into the rainforest—moist air clings to the jacket, and colobus monkeys call from high branches. On the Marangu Route, often called the "Coca–Cola Route," the ascent is methodical: a series of steadily rising camps and well-worn paths that lead from a humid foothill to a high, wind-cut crater rim. Climbers move from rainforest to moorland to alpine desert, and finally onto the frozen lava ash that crowns Uhuru Peak.

Adventure Tips

Pace for altitude

Use a slow, steady pace and hydrate constantly—aim for small, frequent snacks to maintain energy and reduce AMS risk.

Summit-night essentials

Pack a warm down jacket, layered gloves, and a reliable headlamp with spare batteries for the midnight ascent.

Footwear and gaiters

Sturdy, waterproof hiking boots with good ankle support and gaiters will make rainforest mud and summit scree far more manageable.

Respect hut etiquette

Huts are shared (8–16 per hut); bring a small padlock for kit and keep noise low to aid nocturnal rest and acclimatization.
