challenging
6 days (multi-day tour)
Good cardiovascular fitness and leg strength required—expect daily hikes of 3–9 km and sections of scrambling.
Swap hotels for swags on a six‑day loop from Perth to Esperance, Cape Le Grand and Margaret River. Expect granite scrambles, squeaky white beaches, karri forests and nights under open sky—plus local cultural walks and regional wine stops on the return.
A cold, clear dawn out of Perth and the minibus hums down the highway into Western Australia's southern edge. Salt air and eucalypt sap take over the windows as the road narrows and the map of the trip—Wave Rock, Fitzgerald River, Lucky Bay, Bremer Bay, Hamelin Bay and Margaret River—unfurls like a promise. On this six-day adventure you trade hotel corridors for campfire light and biological diversity that seems to have been arranged on purpose: turquoise bays that push at the shoreline, granite peaks that dare you to climb them, and karri giants that hold the canopy like a quiet congregation.

Bags are restricted to one 15 kg soft bag plus one small piece of hand luggage—pack light and use compression stuff sacks for layers.
Bring sturdy boots with good grip—Frenchman Peak and East Mount Barren involve steep, rocky scrambling on exposed slabs.
Carry 2–3 litres when hiking, and use a wide-brim hat and SPF 30+; coastal sun and reflection can intensify exposure.
You’ll sleep in single swags, so bring a warm sleeping bag rated for cool nights and your own pillow for comfort.
This coastline has long been home to the Nyungar and Wudjari peoples; the Dabungool cultural walk in Esperance highlights traditional seasonal knowledge and bush foods.
Many stops are inside national parks and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve—follow Leave No Trace, stick to tracks, and avoid disturbing shorebirds and kangaroo groups.
Grip and ankle support for granite slabs and uneven coastal trails.
Required to sleep inside the provided swag through cool nights.
Hydration for full-day walks and exposed coastal hikes.
