Adventure Tips

Carry a reliable map and compass

Algonquin’s expansive waterways include complex portages and channels; always have navigation tools handy for safe route-finding.

Wear a Personal Floatation Device at all times

PFDs are required by law and vital for safety, especially when navigating unpredictable river currents or windy conditions.

Prepare for bugs in spring and summer

Mosquitoes and black flies can be intense; bring insect repellent and protective clothing to stay comfortable.

Check weather forecasts daily

Weather can shift quickly, making conditions on open water challenging; stay informed to plan paddling and camping accordingly.
