The Golf Club at Red Rock offers an 18-hole public course where rolling terrain and precise greens create an inviting challenge for golfers of all skill levels. Its natural topography and thoughtful design encourage a rewarding experience set against South Dakota's striking landscape.

Course Overview

The Golf Club at Red Rock presents an engaging 18-hole layout that offers a dynamic round for golfers of varying skill levels. Located in Rapid City, South Dakota, this public course unfolds across subtly shifting terrain marked by undulating fairways, strategic bunkering, and carefully maintained greens. The course balances challenge with approachability, inviting beginners to enjoy the stunning surroundings while demanding thoughtful shot-making from seasoned players, especially on par 3s and holes with hidden landing areas.

What sets Red Rock apart is its varied terrain that flows naturally with the region’s topography. The fairways sweep through gentle hills, framed by mature trees and set against a backdrop of bluffs and valleys. This course avoids overcrowding from residential development, allowing nature's contours to shape each hole and preserve a strong sense of solitude amid the challenges of the game. The closing trio, particularly holes 16 through 18, lead golfers into a quiet valley, providing a contemplative finish with a mix of elevation changes and precise shot placement.

Maintenance here is exceptional; fairways remain lush and forgiving for those who prefer to 'pick' their shots, while tee boxes and greens hold true to tournament standards. Players will appreciate both the playability from the whites and the interest provided by undulating greens that test putting strokes without overwhelming the experience.

Amenities enhance each visit. The clubhouse offers a friendly atmosphere, with clubhouse staff known for their welcoming service. Golf carts are clean and reliable, though walking is encouraged to fully absorb the scenery and nuanced challenges of the layout. Weather conditions can occasionally interrupt play, but the staff’s responsiveness ensures a smooth experience.

For those planning a trip, sturdy golf shoes are recommended to navigate the hills comfortably. The course suits families and casual players seeking an engaging escape, while still providing enough strategic elements to satisfy more competitive golfers. Overall, the Golf Club at Red Rock stands as a well-crafted, thoughtfully presented destination that invites every round to feel like a rewarding journey.

Really had a fun time playing this course. Nice and laid back. The golf course owner met us and was gracious. My 14 old son and I rented nice clubs and had a great time. Very fun.

Played this beautifully maintained - and most interestingly varied-terrain golf course on October 4th (front 9) and 5th (back 9) of 2022 while on my cross-country golf trip from Washington state to Ohio and back. Staff Bryan, Jason and Natalie were all very friendly and accommodating. The fairways were so lush, great for a "picker" such as myself. Tee boxes and greens were also in fantastic condition. I had heard that this was a difficult course, but I didn't find it to be so, except for a few holes that required accuracy off the tee box (mostly Par 3s and holes with blind landing areas). Scenic value of a course is of high priority for me, and how much a course is developed with houses is key. I didn't find Red Rock overburdened nor crowded by development - most houses were set back into the trees or high above on the bluffs. I found that holes 16, 17 and 18 to be my favorites, tucked back into a quiet valley. Carts were very clean and well-maintained. The pro shop was lacking a good selection of apparel with the Red Rock logo, but being late in the season coupled with supply chain issues, it's to be expected. The restaurant looked nice, but didn't have a chance to try the menu...I will next visit. Overall a fantastic experience...so beautiful...I will return!

A very well-kept and playable course. Challenging and undulating fairways, but distance from the whites was definitely playable for my 17 handicap. Clubhouse service by Bill was very friendly. They even gave me a 9 hole refund since I got rained out halfway through my 18 holes. Sad I couldn't finish my round, but overall a very nice stop.
