Bully Pulpit Golf Course
Bully Pulpit Golf Course presents a distinctive 18-hole round shaped by the rugged Badlands of North Dakota. With panoramic views, elevated tees, and a course that balances challenge with accessibility, it offers a memorable encounter with the wild terrain for golfers seeking both beauty and a test of skill.
Course Overview
Bully Pulpit Golf Course offers an 18-hole experience that blends rugged natural landscapes with thoughtful course design, making it a unique destination in Medora, North Dakota. This public course stretches across terrain shaped by the Badlands, where rolling hills and dramatic rock formations frame wide fairways and challenging greens. The course’s setting is not a typical parkland or links layout but instead reflects the raw character of the region, providing both visual intrigue and tactical demands for players of all skill levels.
What sets Bully Pulpit apart is its integration with the natural environment, inviting golfers to move through a landscape where wildlife sightings and panoramic views are part of the round. The back nine is especially notable for elevated tee boxes that reveal expansive views across the Badlands, forcing players to consider wind and elevation changes carefully. Throughout, bunkers and natural hollows guard the greens, requiring precision and a steady approach.
Playability favors a broad range of golfers. While the course challenges lower handicaps with demanding shot placements, wide fairways and accessible pin positions keep it approachable for mid- and higher-handicap players. Maintenance tends to be reliable during the operational season, and the course staff takes care to present greens and fairways in excellent condition.
Amenities include a well-equipped clubhouse that serves as a gathering spot before and after rounds, with attentive staff who provide local insight and support. Though power carts with GPS navigation are available, walking is also an option for those prepared for the varied elevation and terrain. Seasonal considerations matter here: the golf season generally runs through late September, with some renovations occurring on certain holes, such as the temporary closure of Hole 16 noted in recent seasons.
Bully Pulpit captures the spirit of North Dakota’s landscape while offering a rewarding golf challenge. Whether aiming for a personal best or simply soaking in the quiet, natural beauty punctuated by bird calls and wind, this course demands attention and invites return visits.
Course Highlights
Set amid the Badlands, the course’s elevated tee boxes provide sweeping views and strategic options, especially on the back nine. Natural land contours and primitive bunkering blend with manicured fairways, creating a layout that tests shot-making without overwhelming less experienced golfers. The combination of scenic vistas and challenging holes offers an experience distinct from typical regional courses.

A Must for golfers of any skill! Beautiful, unique. I don't play but rode along and could not believe the beauty. It's so quiet the birds sound like a high school pep rally. Don't miss it when you're in the area.

Wow! Just wow! This is our second time golfing here and it still is my favorite course of all time. We got out early and were the first ones on the course. The greens and fairways were immaculate! Challenging holes and greens and amazing views everywhere! Staff in the clubhouse and on the course were great!

It's been years since I was there, but I highly, highly recommend Bully Pulpit. It's a really fun course overall, and the stretch of holes that are up in the badlands are pretty amazing. (It's also the first place I ever made four 3s in a row, so the memories are good.)

The course is in good shape! The big problem was that we where put with a family of 4 the one child and faher where going to play and with that said it was 2 childern and father with 2 bags of golf clubs and 1 putter to share.. My husband and I came to play a relaxing game of golf and it was far from that. I believe if a family comes out to play DO NOT put them with others that have spend that kind of money we did to play. I believe this should not have happened at the beginning, we should have been allowed to play on our own.

My spouse and I played the back 8 tonight. The real Hole 16 is under renovation; club house staff represented that it would be available for play next season. Even with one hole missing from the round there was nothing to complain about. Power carts are clean and GPS equipped. Staff was courteous and friendly. The amount of merchandise available in the pro shop was surreal. You could play a poor round here but you would forget your play quality because of the surrounding beauty of the Badlands. If you crave elevated tee boxes the the back 9 is undoubtedly the place to go. The regular season is forecasted to end September 29. Take a break from whatever you are doing and come enjoy this remote treasure; you will have no regrets.

Immaculate course, professional, and friendly staff! I visited from California, inadvertently left a speaker on the golf cart and one of the associates mailed it to my home with a BP postcard - class move! Big fan!
