Mingo Springs Golf Course

Rangeley, Maine, USAWestern Maine

Set amid the hills of Rangeley, Maine, Mingo Springs Golf Course offers a public 18-hole layout carved into rolling terrain with scenic vistas and demanding greens. Its natural challenges and classic mountain golf style provide a grounded, authentic experience for players ready to engage with its uneven fairways and true greens.

Course Overview

Mingo Springs Golf Course presents a rugged challenge amid the mountainous landscape of Rangeley, Maine, offering 18 holes that embrace the region's natural contours. This public course is distinguished by its rolling terrain and panoramic views that stretch across dense forests and hills, making each hole an immersive test of shot-making and strategy. Fairways sweep over uneven ground, demanding precise club selection and thoughtful positioning, while small, undulating greens require careful reads and controlled putting strokes. The elevated tee boxes on several holes provide vantage points that both inspire and intimidate, especially when a brisk Maine breeze shapes the flight of the ball.

The course layout balances open vistas with tree-lined segments, offering variety that keeps players alert throughout their round. Its back nine, while sometimes critiqued for less engagement, still offers pockets of challenge and scenic interest, rewarding golfers who can maintain focus after the front nine’s more diverse offerings. Mingo Springs manages to capture a traditional golf experience, reminiscent of early American hill courses where terrain dictates the game, rather than forced landscaping.

Amenities supplement the course’s wilderness feel with a pro shop stocked for essentials and a welcoming clubhouse offering refreshments and rest after play. On arrival, players are greeted by attentive staff who promptly arrange carts, allowing visitors to concentrate on their rhythm and the natural elements at play. Although the course encourages walking, the hilly layout may be more suitable for those comfortable with steady elevation changes and wearing proper footwear.

For golfers seeking a course that demands adaptability and rewards thoughtful play, Mingo Springs provides an authentic, if occasionally uneven, encounter with Maine’s rugged golf heritage. Visitors should prepare for firm fairways and occasionally challenging greens, and bring along patience to enjoy the course’s honest presentation. This facility is ideal for players who appreciate a no-frills environment paired with invigorating mountain views and a true test of golf in a striking setting.

Course Highlights

The course is known for its hilly layout that integrates the natural topography rather than reshaping it. Signature elements include small, firm greens and several elevated tee boxes that give commanding views across the Rangeley woods. Despite some uneven fairways, Mingo Springs maintains a traditional mountain golf feel that challenges a wide range of players from intermediate to low handicaps.

Lovely Old New England style 18 hole course. Grand views on the front 9. Challenging enough for medium to advanced players. Fun!

Lovely views but outrageously overpriced for a very low quality course. The fairways are anything but level and the greens are filled with dead spots. Good luck finding a ball cleaner with water in it. Pretty much everything about this course is subpar and they have the audacity to charge $65. Tourist trap leave the clubs at home.

Beautiful views. Front 9 way more interesting than back 9. The course needs some love and desperately needs water.

Back again, love the course. Remember when the ball rolled, greens were small and rolled true. This course plays like original golf. Course conditions are wonderful and staff is on top of everything. Pull in and a cart server arrives, “Would you like a cart for todays round?” Register at the pro shop and cold drinks and snacks are there. Away you go. I promise my next visit will be with Tony Penna woods and irons. Old school golf clubs and with modern golf balls! A must play in Maine. Gear up and make the trip up to Rangeley.
