Course Overview

Situated amid the rugged landscapes of Gunnison, Colorado, Dos Rios Golf Club offers a distinct blend of natural beauty and challenging play over its 18 holes. This public course draws golfers who appreciate a layout that is both engaging and approachable, with a terrain that navigates gentle hills and pockets of dense vegetation. The fairways unfold alongside the meandering Cimarron River, lending an earthy backdrop that shifts with the changing light throughout the day. Dos Rios is recognized less for manicured perfection and more for its honest, unpretentious character that invites players to adapt and refine their strategy.

The course’s design caters to intermediate golfers, with several holes demanding thoughtful club selection and placement, especially on the back nine where the contours intensify. Greens present subtle breaks but can test putting touch due to occasional uneven surfaces. While the course offers a fair test, it remains welcoming to golfers still building confidence in their game. Walkers will find a varied terrain that rewards sturdy footwear, though the availability and near-mandatory use of carts reflect the course’s rolling profile.

Beyond the fairways, Dos Rios maintains a casual clubhouse atmosphere noted for friendly staff and generous portions, particularly in its small restaurant where local patrons enjoy hearty fare such as burgers and house specialties. Although certain operational aspects have drawn critiques, including check-in service and course conditions fluctuating with maintenance cycles, many players appreciate the genuine, community-centered vibe. The course is especially popular for social rounds and local gatherings rather than high-stakes competition.

Visitors should anticipate a straightforward but sometimes quirky experience, where quick decisions and patience over tricky holes can make a large difference. Dos Rios Golf Club suits those seeking an adventure through authentic Colorado golf terrain without the polish expected at metropolitan clubs. Planning a visit with members or local guides can unlock deeper insight into the course’s nuances and best strategies, enhancing the day’s enjoyment and challenge.

Course Highlights

The course follows the contour of the Cimarron River, with several holes featuring natural elevation changes and water hazards that demand strategic shot placement. Signature holes include a par-4 with a river crossing tee shot and a downhill par-3 that requires careful distance control. While the greens can present uneven surfaces, they reward precision and reading subtle breaks. The clubhouse's welcoming dining area offers a relaxed setting after the round.

First time there. The entire staff was welcoming, friendly and efficient. We started with the onion rings which were excellent. My neighbor and I had the burgers which were hot and delicious. They came with a dill pickle spear and lettuce, a slice of tomato and raw onion to dress the burger if we wanted. Portions are generous. The burger was the best I've had anywhere in town.

Had a great afternoon at Dos Rios. Fun track some beautiful and quirky holes so better to play with a member who knows the tricks and traps!

I love the course and golfing there with my friends but there is always a roadblock as soon as you get to the course and it’s the lady at the front desk who checks you in she always seems to be in a bad mood and makes it as hard as possible to get you out there and golf. But after that the course is amazing.

$90 a round for a golf course in really bad shape. They also make you purchase a cart so there is no walking rate…

Make sure they charge you the right price if you are not local. Older lady isn't exactly nice if you don't know her and definitely got charged for 18 when I asked for a 9 hole. I double checked on their online portal so i just played all 18. Just a heads up as they will try to up charge you if you aren't local and familiar with the people, second time it has happened to my group. Otherwise great course for intermediate players. Second 9 gets tricky! Greens currently need some word but not terrible. 4 stars on the course less than 2 for the pro shop as I have never been treated so rudely before. Edit: seems like a common theme for the older lady to be incredibly rude and mis-charge "younger" or non-locals. So just a heads up if you see this and that is who is at the pro shop. Worth playing but make sure they don't rip you off.
