Dunedin Golf Club

Dunedin, Florida, USAWest Central Florida

Dunedin Golf Club blends classic Donald Ross design with Florida’s coastal landscape to deliver an 18-hole championship course that challenges shot-making and rewards precision around subtly contoured greens. Suitable for a range of skill levels, it offers a fresh take on a traditional layout refreshed for today’s golfer.

Course Overview

Dunedin Golf Club offers an 18-hole championship layout that reflects a thoughtful restoration rooted in classic Donald Ross design principles. Located in Dunedin, Florida, the course occupies a relatively flat landscape where strategic bunkering and contoured greens provide ample challenge without sacrificing enjoyable flow. Renovation efforts have revitalized the course's character, emphasizing fairway widths that invite creative shot-making while vulnerability remains around the greens, which demand precise approach shots and confident putting.

The course plays just over 6,500 yards from the back tees, with a par of 70. Talented golfers will appreciate the subtle risk-reward interplay Ross intended, especially in how the greens break and the strategic placement of bunkers that feel both natural and deliberately placed. For mid- and higher handicappers, the generous fairways and approachable tee boxes offer an accessible golfing experience, ensuring the course welcomes players across skill levels.

Set against a backdrop of Florida’s familiar pine clusters and sand-based turf, Dunedin invites golfers to stay attentive to the wind – a subtle yet persistent factor influencing club selection and shot trajectory. The recent restoration has restored much of the original Ross-style complexity, visible in green contours reminiscent of Pinehurst No. 1, which rewards a steady, thoughtful game.

While on-site amenities remain functional, they reflect the club’s focus on the sport rather than luxury. Golfers planning a visit should bring walking shoes suited for sandy surfaces and prepare for typical Florida weather conditions that influence course firmness and speed. The course’s design encourages walking, allowing players to immerse themselves fully in the pace and rhythms of each hole.

Dunedin Golf Club stands as a competitive and character-rich course for those seeking a bridge between historic golf architecture and Florida’s subtle coastal elements. It invites golfers to engage both their strategic thinking and shot execution through a layout that prizes precision and patience in equal measure.

Course Highlights

The restoration highlights classic Donald Ross elements including sharply contoured greens and strategic bunkering, reminiscent of iconic Pinehurst No.1. The course’s playability balances demanding pin placements with forgiving fairways framed by native pines and coastal flora, offering a playable yet challenging round in a subtropical setting.

First time on the course so i have no reference to new and old conditions, I would rate the course layout and green and bunker design a 5 star. When you get to the green you know you’re on a Donald Ross course! And the course design overall reminded me of playing pinehurst #1. The conditions were 3 star, thus the overall rating. The course needs water on the tees and fairways (don’t compromise all the great work already done)and go true Pinehurst for all other areas with sand and grass plants and you have a course worth the full rate. Very playable and will return for afternoon rates

Played the course since re-opening in December 2024. It's in excellent condition and the renovation/restoration couldn't have been executed better. This is a phenomenal course if you're in the area--bats way above its average in terms of value. Looking forward to the rest of the reno pieces settling in and seeing this one age well for years to come.

An absolute gem of a course. Totally restored— excellent routing and bunker placement. Greens coming into their own. Would play again and again.

Played this week while visiting from Sarasota. Always has been a nice course, but the post-renovation pricing is too high - $100 mid-week, off season. City residents get a discount. The renovation was pretty well done and the course is in excellent condition, but not going to pay off-season resort-level price for it.

Slightly odd place, perhaps with designs on being a little more than it currently is. The course is admittedly new (well the redesign at least) and I would generally say it has the potential to be a pretty excellent course and is already good. The staff are welcoming and friendly although the service is painfully slow, it wasn’t hugely busy when we arrived yet breakfast took nearly an hour to arrive and was pretty poor when it arrived (order the breakfast sandwich, avoid the avocado toast). As for the golf, the tees seem longish at 6,500 yards but play shorter than that so don’t the put off - the real challenge was the pins which the green keeper had chosen to place in positions which made a mockery of whatever grand plans the course has. In the middle of slopes, places where a missed putt would return 10 feet back to where you hit it etc. There’s no problem with tough pin positions but this was Micky Mouse crazy golf, so it’s a tough course to take seriously. Let’s hope that changes. Finally if you’re hoping to have a shower don’t bother, the facilities are laughable and despite the signs to the contrary the clubhouse will claim towels are the responsibility of the Pro Shop (where has that ever been the case) and visa versa, so no towels and one appalling shower. Given that was the last thing we tried there it left a poor taste in what could be an excellent Donald Ross redesign.
