Links at Tuscaloosa Golf Course
The Links at Tuscaloosa Golf Course offers a concise 18-hole public layout that blends precise shot-making with approachable distance. Its parkland character and maintained greens provide a solid challenge for golfers of all levels amid serene Alabama surroundings.
Course Overview
Located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the Links at Tuscaloosa Golf Course presents an 18-hole public course that challenges golfers with a compact yet engaging layout. The course stretches just under 6,000 yards, with a par of 72, offering a blend of strategic fairways and well-placed hazards that require thoughtful shot-making. The design leans toward a traditional parkland style, where tree-lined fairways frame each hole, and subtle elevation changes add variety without overwhelming the landscape.
Players encounter narrow fairways that test accuracy off the tee while rewarding careful course management. Greens are actively maintained, with contours enhancing scoring opportunities and demanding precise approach shots. The course's moderate length makes it approachable for golfers across skill levels, but narrow routing and occasionally tricky pin placements ensure that even low handicappers find a taste of challenge.
Practicing players can make good use of the facility’s dedicated practice areas, including a driving range limited to roughly 150 yards and a well-kept practice putting green. A practice par-3 hole adjacent to a small lake provides a focused environment for short game sharpening. The positioning of greens near natural water features enriches the visual appeal and injects an element of risk and reward especially on select signature holes, where water looms beyond the putting surfaces.
While the course has experienced strain from recent weather patterns, ongoing maintenance efforts aim to restore finer playing conditions. Friendly on-site staff, including Head Golf Professional Rusty Stephens, contribute to a welcoming atmosphere for first-time visitors and regulars alike.
The Links encourages walking but also offers carts by request, making it accessible to players with differing preferences. For golfers planning a visit, sturdy footwear is advisable given occasional wet grounds, and early tee times may help avoid afternoon humidity common to the region.
The straightforward layout combined with natural southern charm offers a practical yet inviting golf experience in west Alabama’s public scene. The Links at Tuscaloosa remains a viable destination for those seeking accessible competition and a genuine test of precision within a relaxed setting.
Course Highlights
The course stands out for its tight fairways lined by mature trees and a practice par-3 hole located near a peaceful lake. Signature holes challenge golfers with water hazards protecting several greens, calling for precision approaches. The course’s compact yardage delivers a demanding yet fair round that balances scoring potential with strategic demands.

Course is in pretty crappy shape, but that is somewhat to be expected due to all the rain we had in May. However, they don’t sell beer which is comical for a golf course. That plus their range is limited to 150. **biggest issue** I hit a person fishing on the 14th hole. Drive up to the green and there are 5 people hanging out fishing right beside the green. Finish hole 18 and on the way back to the clubhouse… guess what?? A dude is laying down on the cart path fixing his fishing rod. Dude didn’t care at all, so we went around him. Lastly… there was freshly cut grass all over the greens. Like what??? Not worth $40 for a round, choose somewhere else.

The narrow fairways make this a very challenging course. Beautiful layout. Well maintained course with smooth greens. They even have a practice par3 hole beside the lake. Well kept practice putting greens and driving range. Rusty Stephens (Head Golf Professional) is the main reason why this is one of the best public golf courses in west Alabama.

I am responding to the report of Ron not being friendly. All staff, including Ron, have always been very professional and friendly in my experience. The elements have gotten the best of the course over the past couple of years and wish it was in better shape. Three years ago it was in excellent shape and was by far the best value for an enjoyable round of golf for the value in town. I still enjoy a round out at the Links and hope work continues to maintaining the course as nature tries to destroy it. I will continue to support with booking tee times.
