Canyons Golf

Park City, Utah, USAWasatch Mountains

Canyons Golf offers an adventurous mountain course in Park City, Utah, blending steep elevation changes and expansive, multi-tiered greens for a unique test of skill. This 18-hole layout challenges golfers with dramatic downhills, blind shots, and a raw landscape that demands precise shot-making and strategic play.

Course Overview

Canyons Golf sits amid the rugged, high-altitude terrain of Park City, Utah, offering a distinctive 18-hole mountain course that challenges players with its dramatic elevation changes and expansive, undulating greens. This semi-private layout unfolds across diverse slopes and ridges, demanding strategic shot-making and careful club selection as golfers navigate fairways that often drop sharply into distant landing zones. The course’s par 72 yardage stretches to just under 6,100 yards from the back tees, but length alone does not convey its difficulty—steep downhill drives, blind shots framed by the surrounding wilderness, and large fast greens keep players constantly engaged.

The landscape here is raw and striking, with each hole commanding its own panoramic views of the Wasatch Mountains. Deep bunkers and natural rock formations guard many of the putting surfaces, requiring precision both off the tee and on the greens. Multiple par 3s on the back nine inject variety into the routing, compelling golfers to adapt quickly to shifting wind patterns that can impact ball flight dramatically at this altitude. Despite a somewhat unconventional routing—shaped by the resort’s existing infrastructure—the layout rewards careful navigation and offers moments of breathtaking beauty around every turn.

Canyons Golf may not cater to those seeking a polished, traditional golf resort experience. The course features minimal amenities, with no pro shop or clubhouse on-site, and the cart paths have a rustic quality that reflects the unrefined mountain setting. This is a course for players who relish an honest test of skill and enjoy wild terrain as part of their golfing adventure. Walkers will want sturdy shoes prepared for varied surfaces and considerable elevation shifts.

Visitors planning a round here should bring plenty of golf balls and expect to adjust to the demanding greens, many of which slope severely and can turn approach shots into challenging putts. The staff is known for its welcoming hospitality, and the overall experience presents an unmatched opportunity to play an authentic mountain course in one of Utah’s most scenic areas. Canyons Golf rewards those who approach it with patience and a keen sense of adventure.

Course Highlights

The course features striking elevation drops, including a par 5 with an approximately 300-foot descent from tee to green. Large, undulating greens create a significant challenge for putting. The routing includes multiple par 3s in quick succession on the back nine, adding variety. Rustic cart paths and a lack of traditional clubhouse amenities emphasize the course’s rugged mountain character.

Canyons is a beautiful, challenging, but strange course. It seems to be a master planning afterthought (ski resort, hotels, and homes all were planned first) and so this course fits into the nooks and crannies of lower Canyons resort. 4 par 3s in the back nine? Check. No pro shop or cafe? Check. Massive tee box drives dropping 300’ to a distant fairway? Also check. Cart paths were curiously rustic (why not replace the asphalt?) but the friendly staff and perfect fairways made up for it. Greens were in great shape but many are multi-tiered, unforgiving beasts. This is not an easy or forgiving course. Bring extra balls and be prepared for big down mountain drives and par 3 after par 3 after par 3. But worth a round when visiting Park City and looking for a challenge at a truly epic mountain course.

Beautiful scenery, very difficult course. I would recommend however be prepared for many blinds. Half of the cart paths are dusty and unpaved. The clubhouse is a mobile unit. Drink stops close early. Other than that the scenery cannot be beat!

This place is an absolute dog track. Worst course layout I’ve ever played. Im not just saying this, I actually played pretty decent. Just under 6100 yards from the tips. They built a course where they didn’t have the space to do it. Bad practice facility, Trailer pro shop, Dirt cart paths, get ready to eat some dust, Burrowing animal holes everywhere and bad tee boxes. The only okay part about the round was that the greens rolled okay and the views were good. Just don’t expect much and you’ll be fine.

The staff was top notch and very friendly. The course was gorgeous. Very scenic. Almost every hole was a picture. Just beautiful. As people say, the greens are large and undulating. No straight putts on these greens. My wife and I had a blast and really enjoyed this course. We will definitely be playing this course again. We would highly recommend this course. Bring a camera or phone to take pictures. Great course.

Played here around 7 times over three years I guess. When it comes to playing some excellent golf, the Canyons is incredible. This course has sent many tourists away who vow never to play golf again. On the par 5, 6th hole, the elevation drop from tee to green might be 300 ft. You can eat a sandwich in the time it takes for your drive to finally land. It's a spectacular mountain course. Nearly every green presents the risk of a high number; most of the greens are enormous and have substantial undulations. Even a steady putt can roll off the green and 40 feet down a slope, then requiring a careful chip to get back on. The picture I post is present-day #17 but was originally #3. It's a fantastic dogleg to get to where the golfer is in the picture. You can't see much of the hole from the tee box. The golfer looks like he hit safely on his drive. Can't wait to play there again.

Really nice track. But for this price, to have most cart paths be dirt and rock, and the process shop in a temp building, it wasn't a good match. Very nice people. Again, really great challenge for medium to better skilled golfers. Wouldn't recommend for 10 handicap or higher

Course is a bit confusing due to its size, and the "clubhouse". Other than that, I really enjoy the course.

Review for the PGA Pro at The Canyons Golf, Park City First off—credit where credit is due: you, sir, have a stunning course. The layout, the views, and the design are all top-tier. But unfortunately, two fundamental flaws are dragging down what should be one of the best golf experiences in Utah. Let’s start with the lesser of the two issues: signage. Navigating the course shouldn’t feel like solving a riddle with a hangover. Ground-level signs that are the color of dirt, half the size of my size 13 shoe, and buried in weeds? C’mon. I spent more time looking for the next tee box than I did looking for my ball in the rough. Clear, visible, elevated signage would go a long way in keeping players moving—and slightly less irritated. Now, onto the main event: the cart situation. I don’t know who coded the carts to shut down if you look sideways at a “no cart zone,” but I’d like to have a word. If you accidentally cross the invisible boundary line by a foot, the cart doesn’t just warn you—it dies. And you’re forced to back up like a drunk turtle, at a speed so slow it feels like punishment. Meanwhile, two groups behind you are lining up their tee shots while you’re reverse crawling back to safety. Even on the designated cart paths, the experience is a rollercoaster—minus the fun. The speed limiter kicks in so aggressively and inconsistently, I left with whiplash. Honestly, it’s like the cart is in a toxic relationship with the GPS system. Speed up, slow down, speed up, STOP. It’s maddening. And speaking of that GPS system—it’s loud, annoying, and flashes warnings like a Vegas slot machine. I came to golf, not to be babysat by a glorified Tamagotchi on wheels. Here’s an idea: base cart privileges on handicap. If someone’s an 18+ handicap, sure, maybe keep the training wheels on. But if someone can handle themselves on the course, let them drive. Right now, using your carts is like playing 18 holes in purgatory with handlebars. I actually understand why I saw two golfers bring their own carts this morning. I wish I had done the same. Your course deserves better—and so do your players. In short: Beautiful course. Great potential. Cart system? A total buzzkill. Please fix it. And next time someone decides to reprogram the carts, maybe give them a basic logic test first—or at least check that they’re not still recovering from licking electrical outlets as kids. Sincerely, A golfer who would love to come back—but not if it means riding the hell-cart express.
