Red Fox Run Golf Course

Gwinn, Michigan, USAUpper Peninsula of Michigan

Red Fox Run Golf Course presents an 18-hole challenge characterized by rolling terrain, strategic sand traps, and a layout accommodating players of all abilities. Set on former Air Force land near Gwinn, Michigan, it offers accessible play amid natural elevation and a friendly, inviting clubhouse atmosphere.

Course Overview

Red Fox Run Golf Course in Gwinn, Michigan offers an 18-hole layout that invites golfers of all skill levels to navigate its blend of natural terrain and thoughtful design. Situated on land once part of an Air Force base, this course combines open, hilly stretches with pockets of dense woodland, challenging players to master both elevation shifts and strategically placed sand traps. The landscape gently pushes and pulls with rolling fairways that reward precision and patience rather than sheer power, making it a refreshing test for novices and veterans alike.

The course’s playability stands out for its accommodating nature. Tee markers are thoughtfully arranged to cater to beginners, youth, and senior players, while the greens feature options like a larger “Big Cup” for quicker play, demonstrating a focus on pace without sacrificing challenge. One par-3, notable for its small, narrow green, demands an exacting approach shot that adds variety and strategic depth to the round.

Though the facilities reflect a more modest budget, Red Fox Run’s clubhouse remains welcoming, offering a friendly atmosphere for post-round meals and drinks. Staff members contribute to a personable experience, blending professionalism with genuine hospitality that enhances each visit. While some limitations exist—such as restricted cart hours and policies around tee times and group sizes—the course’s smooth-running pace and well-kept greens make it a rewarding spot for a casual day of golf or a relaxed outing with friends.

Golfers should note the absence of locker rooms and limited beverage options, but the course’s terrain, pace, and user-friendly design compensate impressively. Walking is encouraged on this course, where varied footing on fairways and elevation shifts call for comfortable shoes, and the quiet rural setting provides a peaceful respite from busier venues.

Whether tackling tight, blind shots through natural contours or enjoying the open, breezy expanses, Red Fox Run offers a striking balance between approachability and challenge, making it a preferred destination for golfers seeking a welcoming experience in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Course Highlights

Course layout utilizes natural elevation changes from its history as an Air Force base, featuring hilly fairways and wooded areas that demand thoughtful shot placement. The small, narrow par-3 green stands out as a test of precision. Recent adaptations such as larger cup options and forward tees show dedication to pace-of-play and inclusivity across skill levels.

Nice course. Some challenging holes but even a novice golfer can handle it. My son said, "Don't get discouraged at the next hole." What? Discouraged? Never! Even got a punch card!

Interesting course near an old Air-force base. Open and hilly. A great place for a round of golf! Stay for lunch afterwards.

this is a wonderful track located on an old air force base just outside of Marquette, MI in the community of Gwinn, MI. The course is a lower end operating budget but has a lot of great features. I play here often and the pace of play is very good. The course design is moderate. It has its very easy, straight ahead holes. But then it has it holes that are longer, one par three is difficult because of the size of the green from front to back is very small. Then some holes follow the natural landscape which causes some big blind shots and elevation changes. The BEST part of this golf course is its friendliness to all levels of golfers. from those who like to play from the tips to the beginner, youth, and senior citizens. The crew has placed the standard pin on the greens but also now have the larger "Big Cup" as well. Which speeds up play. They also have tee markers specifically for youth / beginner golfers. these tees are moved up on the fairway. This is a great idea! the clubhouse is very nice as well, great food. staff is friendly and easy to visit with while haveing a drink an/or meal.

This course is a challenging woods course with smooth greens and strategically placed sand traps. Unfortunately the clubhouse looks like it hasn't been updated since the 80s, there are no locker rooms, cold or pantry food options, limited selections for alcohol, and some restricting policies that limit the freedoms other golf courses in the area offer (i.e. carts in by 9, no tee times past 6p-7p differing depending on employee, and no group golfing over parties of 4). The staff is always polite and personal, and the improvements made throughout the years have surpassed what I could have imagined. Give this course a chance and you won't be disappointed.

Only 2 stars because the staff was friendly. Extremely overpriced, $34 for 9 with a cart. Wouldn't mind but course is trash minus the greens. Fairway, rough, and tee boxes are all the same length. I'd pay maybe $15 for 9 holes.
