El Conquistador Golf Club

Oro Valley, Arizona, USATucson Area

El Conquistador Golf Club offers 36 holes across two distinct courses amid the desert landscape of Oro Valley, combining challenging terrain and approachable layouts. Managed by Troon, the club delivers quality conditions and amenities tailored for diverse golfers seeking a southwestern golf experience.

Course Overview

El Conquistador Golf Club presents two contrasting 18-hole layouts that cater to a wide spectrum of golfers seeking desert golf in northern Tucson, Arizona. Managed by Troon and situated within the El Conquistador Tucson resort, the courses frame the arid Sonoran landscape with a combination of scenic elevation changes, desert flora, and mountain vistas. The South Course winds through more rugged terrain with natural desert washes and sprawling saguaros, offering a challenge enhanced by firm fairways and greens that demand precision. The North Course, by comparison, appears more inviting to mid-handicap players, featuring generous landing areas and a layout that balances risk and reward without sacrificing interest.

Golfers walking the grounds encounter finely maintained conditions that reflect the Troon commitment to quality, though some bunkers incorporate sharper gravel rather than traditional sand, a detail noted by players and a small consideration when approaching hazards during play. The dry, warm climate typically allows for year-round play, but early morning tee times can help avoid the high desert sun and maximize course enjoyment. The property’s 36 holes provide ample variety, making it an ideal destination for multi-round stays or group trips.

Beyond the fairways, the clubhouse at El Conquistador offers comfortable amenities including pro shop services and dining options suited for both casual and celebratory rounds. Players will appreciate the spacious practice facilities that help prepare for the desert’s subtle but persistent challenges. While pace of play has been flagged during peak times, visiting golfers can improve their rounds with strategic scheduling, allowing the course’s natural rhythm to shine.

Whether testing shot-making on the South Course’s more rugged terrain or enjoying a measured round on the North Course, El Conquistador Golf Club blends the spirit of desert golf with hospitality and condition standards that appeal both to adventurers and those seeking a memorable southwestern golfing experience.

Course Highlights

The two 18-hole courses showcase the Sonoran Desert’s native terrain including saguaro cacti and natural washes. The South Course tests golfers with sharper elevation changes and tighter fairways, while the North Course offers a more forgiving layout. Both courses are maintained under Troon’s standards, providing firm playing surfaces and a desert golf experience under panoramic mountain views.

My only complaint is the sand traps. Some are just dirt and sharp gravel. For the price I’d expect real sand

Wonderful course layout and views. Troon managing now so conditions and service are 5-Star. Nice they have 36 holes. Great option for multiple day group trips. Can’t wait to go back.

Obviously off-season stay. Beautiful grounds, friendly staff decent food. Very nice and not crowded. Excellent gift shop. Only disappointment was the spa did not offer pedicures or manicures.

Average golf course, in decent shape. However, the pace of play is horrendous. After waiting for 5-10 minutes on each shot all day, we finally gave up on hole 16 when we crossed into the 5+ hour mark, and just skipped the last two holes. If you plan to play there, make sure you plan on a 6 hour round of golf.

For a resort this golf course is petty bad . Greens were horrible and the fairway wasn't anything special.
