Highlands Golf Club at Seven Springs

Champion, Pennsylvania, USASouthwestern Pennsylvania

Highlands Golf Club at Seven Springs challenges golfers with rolling hills and elevation changes that demand thoughtful strategy. This 18-hole public course offers a rugged, natural layout ideal for players seeking a test of skill balanced with accessible playability.

Course Overview

Highlands Golf Club at Seven Springs offers golfers an 18-hole challenge set amid the rugged terrain of southwestern Pennsylvania. This public course weaves through rolling hills that demand both strategic shot-making and careful club selection. Each hole presents a palpable sense of elevation change, with uphill par 5s extending the yardage and inviting longer carries that put power and accuracy to the test. The course’s design emphasizes natural contours without overdevelopment, allowing the surrounding landscape to shape the golfing experience.

The layout is best suited for players who appreciate a robust test but also want a course that rewards thoughtful play rather than brute force alone. Fairways curve gently around mature hardwoods, while several holes take on a more open feel, exposing players to prevailing winds that can influence ball flight and tempo. Bunkers are positioned to protect landing areas rather than the greens exclusively, adding a layer of strategy off the tee. Greens are known to be generous in size but often subtly contoured, requiring precise putting to capitalize on scoring opportunities.

While conditions can vary by season, the course typically offers good drainage and turf quality that stands firm even after rains. The pace of play tends to be brisk, enhancing the rhythm of the round for mid-level and advanced golfers alike. Amenities are functional, centered mainly around a modest clubhouse and a pro shop equipped to accommodate last-minute needs.

Walking is encouraged at Highlands Golf Club, though the undulating terrain calls for comfortable shoes with reliable traction. For those planning a visit, midweek rounds provide the best balance of value and course condition. Overall, Highlands presents an honest golf experience where the landscape’s natural challenges shape strategy and every hole tells its own story through subtle shifts in elevation and exposure.

Course Highlights

The course features significant elevation changes, especially on the longer par 5s, creating demanding lies and challenging approaches. Bunkers are strategically placed to protect driving zones. The natural, lightly contoured greens require precision putting. Venturing toward exposed holes, the wind can become a tactical factor.

Most if not all of these reviews must be made up. $44 on Friday(reasonable). Saturday morning it was $82(gouging). Pro Shop let a single with no tee time go out in between foursomes. Staff was incompetent and demanding. Hamburger at the turn was cold. Greens were slow to the point where you couldn't make a putt. When the ball slowed it would turn sharply. Inexperienced players playing from the back tees. Extremely poor run establishment. Terrible experience. Will never go back. Don't waste your money. Only positive was the Assistant Pro. Good Guy.

The course layout is challenging… With long power fives uphill adding extra yards. I was surprised by the weeds/dandelions everywhere. The $44 weekday spring right is probably what the rates should be all summer. But wouldn’t go back when they go up $70 plus.
