Ashley Plantation Country Club

Daleville, Virginia, USASouthwest Virginia

Ashley Plantation Country Club offers a dynamic 18-hole challenge set amid rolling hills and valleys in Daleville, Virginia. Featuring a rare 715-yard par 6 and notable elevation changes, the course balances strategic shot-making with a relaxed pace and scenic variety.

Course Overview

Set against the rolling hills and verdant valleys of Daleville, Virginia, Ashley Plantation Country Club offers a distinct golfing experience that blends elevated design with natural contours. This 18-hole layout challenges players without overwhelming them, featuring open fairways framed by gentle slopes and strategic elevation changes that test club selection and shot creativity. The par 6, stretching an imposing 715 yards, is a rare find in the region, inviting long hitters to embrace both power and precision. Scattered throughout the course, tee boxes perched high command views down to greens tucked into valley floors, adding a vertical dimension that engages judgment and patience.

The landscape’s undulating nature ensures that wind often plays a subtle but persistent role, shaping every club and stance. The course’s conditioning draws praise, with fairways generally maintained to an acceptable standard and greens noted for their challenging, fast surfaces that demand careful reading, reminiscent of U.S. Open setups. While some areas like tees and bunkers have room for improvement, the overall presentation highlights a balance between a natural feel and functional maintenance.

Ashley Plantation appeals broadly to golfers who appreciate a relaxed pace and a course that rewards thoughtful strategy over brute force alone. Players can expect fewer crowds, lending an atmosphere where focus and the sounds of nature dominate. The friendly staff enhances this experience, providing smooth check-in procedures and helpful service.

For visitors planning their day here, walking the course is practical and enjoyable due to its moderate terrain, but preparing for occasional gusts is wise. The unique hole sequence, particularly the island green on the 10th, provides memorable moments that add distinction to a round. At the modest rate charged, Ashley Plantation represents a well-kept secret in Southwest Virginia for those seeking variety and a worthwhile challenge beyond the typical regional offerings.

Course Highlights

Ashley Plantation is distinguished by its bold par 6 hole, one of the longest in the region, and a thoughtfully designed island green on the demanding 10th hole. The course utilizes elevation effectively, providing strategic choices and dramatic views from elevated tees to valley-set greens. While some tee boxes and bunkers could benefit from further refinement, the overall conditioning supports a rewarding test of shot accuracy and course management. The layout favors players who can adapt to wind influences and appreciate a layout that encourages careful play over sheer distance.

Best course around. Josh is an amazing pro with a great personality. The whole staff is wonderful. Renee in the bar is the highlight. Kyle loves to hear "Go Blue". Say it to him anytime you see him there.

Great Shape tough conditions due to 30 to 40 mph wind gusts.

Absolutely stunning course. Nice rolling green hills and valleys, with picturestic mountains in the background. They have a number of holes they use the elevation well. Tee box up very high with the green way down in a valley. They even have a 715yd par 6 hole. Staff was super nice, and we didn't see another soul in sight. However, the greens were set up like Bethpage for the US open. They were like putting on ice. $57 on a Saturday to play this course is well worth it. It's well maintained and quite enjoyable.

Beautifully kept course including a par 6. Sometimes the wind is a bit of a pain but fairways are primarily pretty open. I’ve came out here 2 times to play in the last month and it’s been a pleasurable relaxed playing pace vs some of the other busier similarly priced courses in the area. Hole #10 is particularly challenging as an island green and is before the turn. Would highly recommend.

Not sure what to make of this course. The low price should have tipped me off. A timid starter, invisible ranger and no bev cart were all frustrating. There are a lot of good holes out there, but the shaggy fairways, shabby tees (including one with a range mat) and sad bunkers take away from the experience. I heard all about losing holes to bankruptcy or safety concerns and rerouting with two double back holes, and it just left me scratching my head. I think there might be potential at AP, but it may be a ways off.

The staff are professional and friendly and aside from the bunkers being more like a dirt road the course is really nice for the price. The layout is different from most courses in the area, the fairways are in good shape but difficult to stay on if your tee shot is in the wrong spot. The greens are fast enough and relatively easy. The driving range mats are terrible so if the grass tees are closed then hopefully you have a brush to scrape the plastic off your club heads, plus the range balls need to be replaced. Updated review; Since the above review I have joined here, mostly due to it being right down the road from my house, but also because I like the course and mostly because of how awesome the staff treats everyone, not just members. I play all the local courses and nobody treats people as well as the staff at Ashley. In the last 4 years, Mark, who is the course super, has done a tremendous job in bringing this course back to being one of the nicest courses in the valley and surrounding areas. The fairways were really healthy before last summer's awful drought and I expect they will be in great shape this summer as they are already coming back nicely. The greens are smooth and fast, especially after they mow and roll them! Most of the bunkers are in much better shape but some of the fairway bunkers may require a "rake n play" rule. If you're looking for lessons or a fitting Josh Vaughan is the man! He's got a positive attitude, knows how to make you feel comfortable and seems genuinely interested in making everyone enjoy playing the game. Renee and the restaurant staff are also doing an amazing job with great prices on cold beer and tasty foods!
