Links At Sierra Blanca
The Links At Sierra Blanca presents an 18-hole championship-style course that channels classic Scottish links design in a stunning mountain setting. Known for rolling fairways, strategic bunkering, and pristine conditions, it offers a refreshing alternative to the typical desert golf experience in New Mexico.
Course Overview
Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Sierra Blanca mountains in Ruidoso, New Mexico, the Links At Sierra Blanca offers an 18-hole public golf experience that channels the spirit and challenge of traditional Scottish links courses. Unlike conventional desert layouts common to the Southwest, this course lays out fairways that ripple over rolling terrain, with fescue grasses framing the holes and expansive, multi-tiered greens that demand precision. The elevation and natural topography bring a fresh dynamic—the wind here tests your shot selection and tempo, while the mountain views provide an ever-changing panorama that shifts with the light.
The Links At Sierra Blanca blends open, windswept fairways with positioned bunkers that guard the gradual slopes of each green. The layout rewards thoughtful strategy over brute force, making it approachable for mid- to low-handicap players and rewarding enough to engage seasoned golfers seeking a varied challenge. Wildlife sightings are common on the course, from wild horses that casually cross fairways to local elk that quietly graze nearby, adding an unpredictable charm to the round without intrusion.
Course conditions generally receive high marks, with well-maintained fairways and smooth greens, although seasons with aerification can temporarily alter surface feel. The clubhouse provides a relaxed atmosphere featuring a well-stocked snack bar with familiar comfort fare perfect for unwinding after your round.
Playing here typically involves walking, encouraged by the course layout and terrain, with some elevation changes that suggest comfortable, supportive footwear. The course’s location just outside of downtown Ruidoso makes it accessible for travelers and locals alike, with tee times available to the public throughout the year.
For golfers seeking an authentic links-style test framed by alpine scenery, the Links At Sierra Blanca offers a blend of natural beauty and practical playability. Its unique location and thoughtful design create a memorable round that lives up to its name, providing a distinctive alternative to the region’s desert golf norm.
Course Highlights
The course’s signature character comes from its classic Scottish links-style influences combined with the rugged Sierra Blanca mountain setting. Rolling fairways and wide, smoothly contoured greens are framed by thick fescue grasses, while strategic bunkers add challenge without overwhelming. Wildlife, including wild horses, occasionally share the grounds, contributing to the unique natural atmosphere. Its design contrasts sharply with nearby desert courses, offering a refreshing play style for golfers seeking something different in New Mexico.

First time playing the course. Fun layout, but not nearly worth the $125 price ($135 after taxes). - Cups had not been cut in what looked like a couple of days. - Greens had not healed from previous aerification. Very bumpy. - Tee boxes not set in level positions. - No beer license/not allowed to BYOB. Empty cans all over the course. In general, the course is not in great shape, even for off-season.

4.5 Stars … Great Golf Course! … Just a bit too pricey

Absolutely beautiful course. They lowered the prices to $90 and if that's to much, go play the twilight hours at 4pm in the summer for $32. The layout is awesome and the wildlife is gorgeous. If you are easily inconvenienced then maybe a pack of wild horses next to the fairway may not be your thing, but slowly driving up to them is enough to get them to disburse. The greens were close to perfect and the fairways and tee boxes were well cared for. Will definitely be playing this course again.

The best valued golf course I think I have ever played in my entire life. We saw horses, elk, and the greens are pure. The back 9 was surreal and Jim was the man super welcoming. Best time I’ve had in awhile on the links.

I have played this course many, many times over the years. The course is beautifully designed with a classic Scottish links style, set against the stunning backdrop of the Sierra Blanca mountains. The layout is both challenging and enjoyable. You would never know this used to be the location of the Ruidoso airport. Beautiful views of the mountains and lots of wildlife here, even wild horses. The course conditions were top-notch. The fairways were lush and well-maintained. It’s clear that a lot of care goes into keeping this course in excellent shape. The staff were friendly and accommodating. One of the highlights was the unique setting of the course, which offers a refreshing change from typical desert courses. The clubhouse is cozy and well-equipped, providing a nice spot to relax after a round. The little snack shake has great hot dogs and sandwiches.

Best bang for your buck in southern NM. Greens are pure, and the course is hard. Jim in the pro shop is the man. Back 9 makes this course legendary!
