This 18-hole public course opens with straightforward fairways that gradually give way to more strategic challenges, framed by the expansive sky and gentle rolling terrain. The course offers a classic parkland style, where tree-lined holes blend with stretches of native grass, providing both visual interest and tactical variety without overwhelming less experienced players.
Designed to accommodate a broad range of golfers, Lake Hills balances approachable play with moments that demand thoughtful shot placement. The moderately sized greens reward precise iron play while bunkers position themselves to make errant shots costly. The course’s maintenance maintains firm but fair conditions, with a particular emphasis on playable greens and well-kept tee boxes that stand ready for weekend rounds or weekday practice sessions alike.
Scenery along the course reflects the region’s semi-arid climate, combining patches of vibrant green turf with natural arid grasses that frame several holes. These landscape features, though modest, encourage golfers to consider wind angles and club selection, particularly on the longer par 4s and par 5s.
Amenities at Lake Hills include a sizable clubhouse with a snack shack located mid-course for convenient refreshments, although some facilities such as the restrooms nearby see limited use. The overall environment speaks to a community-centered course where friendliness and local enthusiasm shape the atmosphere more than upscale extravagance.
For visitors planning a round, the pace of play may occasionally slow due to high volume tee times, so early mornings or weekdays are ideal for a more fluid experience. Walking is encouraged, with relatively flat terrain and paths that are easy to navigate; sturdy shoes are recommended given some dry rough areas. Golf carts are available by request but many enjoy the walk, soaking in the openness that defines Lake Hills as a practical and straightforward golf destination in Billings.
Whether you are looking to sharpen your game or enjoy a relaxed outing, Lake Hills Golf Course provides a solid canvas that balances challenge with approachability amid Montana’s wide-open spaces.

When we called to make a tee time the guy who answered the phone, Liam, was unfriendly and clearly did not want to be there. Prices are too high for the quality of the course and they book too many tee times so it was extremely slow. Would be better off spending your money at Pryor or Eagle Rock.

Played this course alot when lived in Billings. Course was in good shape for late May. Greens were slow and inconsistent but everything was green and the course played great. Not much has changed over the years. Too bad they don't use the restrooms and snack shack in middle of the course. Overall this course is a fair challenge but the price could be a little lower.
