Quail Hollow Golf Course

Boise, Idaho, USASouthwest Idaho

Set against the Boise Foothills, Quail Hollow Golf Course offers a compelling 18-hole layout with significant elevation changes, narrow fairways, and scenic mountain views. This public course challenges players with strategic shot-making and perched greens while maintaining an inviting atmosphere for all skill levels.

Course Overview

Quail Hollow Golf Course in Boise, Idaho offers an engaging and visually striking 18-hole challenge that blends parkland styling with foothills terrain. Situated within Stewart Gulch Park at the base of the Boise Foothills, the course presents golfers with a dynamic blend of elevation changes, narrow fairways, and thoughtfully placed hazards that demand precision and strategic club selection. Elevation shifts transform routine shots into thoughtful decisions, where choosing between driver, fairway wood, or iron can define the outcome of each hole.

The layout is approachable for a wide range of players but rewards accuracy more than raw power. Its challenging topography means blind fairways and perched greens test course management at every turn. The second hole typifies this design philosophy - a steep uphill par 3 played across a deep valley to a green perched atop a ridge. Downhill doglegs, tight corridors lined with tall grasses, and well-guarded putting surfaces ensure that every stroke matters.

Quail Hollow’s signature 18th hole caps the round with an elevated tee box overlooking a substantial pond and an inviting but curving green that calls for a well-placed approach. The par 4 14th demands careful club selection on the steep uphill climb, where yardage feels lengthened by the incline, while the adjacent 15th offers a narrow par 3 bracketed by slopes and shrubbery.

The course embraces walking but due to significant elevation changes a golf cart is highly recommended for most players seeking comfort without sacrificing pace of play. The conditioning holds up well for a municipal course, with manicured fairways and smooth greens. Practice facilities include a driving range and chipping area adequate for pre-round tuning. The pro shop is welcoming and stocked with essentials, reflecting the relaxed, friendly vibe typical of Boise golf.

Quail Hollow invites both locals and visitors to experience a rewarding test of skill framed by sweeping mountain views and natural surroundings. It ranks as a memorable public course that balances difficulty with visual appeal, making it well worth a visit for those seeking a distinctive golf outing in the Treasure Valley.

Course Highlights

Quail Hollow stands out for its integration into Boise's foothills, offering challenging uphill and downhill shots, a signature par 3 second hole played across a deep valley, and a memorable finishing hole with an elevated tee overlooking water. Its combination of narrow fairways, blind shots, and perched greens rewards strategic play and careful club selection.

Spectacular! One of my favorite courses I've ever played. Quail Hollow is beautiful and so much fun to play. So many holes ask you to decide between driver or iron on this fun layout with some great doglegs, water hazards to carry, or just a narrowing fairway. It is not like so many others where you pull driver on almost every par 4 and 5, though you mostly can if you are hitting the driver accurately enough. Quail Hollow has some good elevation changes so I wouldn't recommend walking this one. My favorite holes include #'s 1 ,2, 3, 5, 10, 11, 12, 14, 17, and 18. A must play if you are in the area. I can't wait to play it again.

Played a Friday AM. Awesome pace of play. Very difficult course - have your driver/3W/etc locked in! Manage expectations of score and enjoy the sights and sounds. The pro shop is very friendly and does a fun way of announcing groups off the first tee. Excellent birds on the course, including some California Quail!

Quail Hollow is a treat for any golfer and happens to be my son's favorite course because it isn't overly difficult and it's well kept. The views of the city and the rolling hills make the round very scenic. The staff is friendly, and helpful. Highly Recommend!

It's an amazing chorus especially considering it's a Muni. Very challenging. From narrow fairways and oddly-shaped greens, to challenging pin positions and unique tea boxes, this place has it all. The only real complaint I had was a lack of ball cleaning stations around the course. We only found them on hole one and hole 10. I'm used to seeing them on par 3s, not at the beginning of the front and back nine. The driving range and chipping green were well-maintained. I would highly recommend anybody from out of town who's used to a more challenging course go play this gem hidden in the Foothills in Boise.

Quail Hollow was my first golf adventure in Boise, Idaho. What a gem. I have to start with the surrounding environment - OMG!! Quail Hollow sits at the foot hills within the Stewart Gulch Park. Which means there are endless views of mountains which leaves you in awe. The course is an adventure in its own right. The first hole plays like any other parkland course, then there's the second hole - a steep climb to a 180 yd par 3 - where you're hitting across a deep valley onto a green that seems to sit on top of a mountain. A missed shot will require you to pitch straight up. Of course, when you go up, you have to come down. The third hole is a downhill par 4 dog-leg with a blind green. And that's much of the course. Every hole has an interesting feature that requires you to play conservative with accuracy, whether it be the winding dog-legs, rolling hills, mountainous views, blind fairways, perched greens, tall grasses, or ponds, you'll be sure to play every club in the bag. Sometimes it's smarter to leave the driver and go to the 3W off the tee. Hole14 plays up into a steep valley. Thought it's 300 yards you'll need to play this like it's 400 because you're playing this hole straight up. On the way down is number 15, a narrow 170 yard par 3, sandwiched between a mountain side and the 14th, with a hundred yards of shrubs and tall grass, where you'll have to go down a few club lengths to accommodate for the slope. The 18th is the signature hole, 400 plus yards from an elevated tee box that feels like hundred feet overlooking a pond, onto a curvaceous green. I love to walk. Because of the shifts of elevation and the steep climbs I would suggest to cart. The round should play just over 4 hours. The overall condition of the course is better than the average public course. Everything is well groomed and maintained. The practice areas aren't wow, but are adequate for a quick pre-game warm up. And the pro shop has everything you would expect from a wide range of balls, to clothing and gear. And the staff are Boise friendly and laid back. So are most of the people playing the course. Well worth the price. There's not much to stay around for after your round. Maybe a beer and then head home. As I was travelling to Boise, it's a ten minute UBER to downtown Boise.

Really beautiful course with great, technical holes. Out of all the courses I've played on the valley, i never had an issues with slow play. But, the young dude helping the Marshall told us we would have to skip the next 3 holes to catch up. Problem was, we were being held up by a group of walkers on the very next hole. No harm, no foul. I told him we wouldn't be skipping ahead since we paid to pay 18. Then the marshal came over and apologized. All in all, I'll be back to play for sure. Course is worth it and I hit my highest record drive on the 18th.
