Pagosa Springs Golf Club

Pagosa Springs, Colorado, USASouthwest Colorado

Pagosa Springs Golf Club presents a 27-hole course that blends broad fairways and subtle elevation shifts against the rugged high desert backdrop of southwestern Colorado. Visitors can expect a challenging yet rewarding day amid natural scenery and variable conditions that test both strategic play and adaptability.

Course Overview

Pagosa Springs Golf Club offers a challenging 27-hole layout perched in the high desert landscape of southwestern Colorado. While it primarily caters to local members, visitors seeking to test their game amid wide-open spaces and mountain vistas will find this course a unique experience. The design combines traditional parkland routing with subtle elevation changes that keep players engaged throughout their round. Fairways are broad but can be deceptive in their softness, demanding precise tee shots to avoid uneven lies. The greens vary in speed and contour, providing plenty of opportunities for strategic putting, though their current condition encourages a more conservative approach.

The course’s setting is defined by juniper-studded mesas and views of the distant San Juan Mountains, lending a raw, natural feel that sets it apart from the manicured resort courses in the region. Wind can influence play, particularly on exposed holes where timing your swing tempo becomes critical. While some turf areas have shown signs of strain, especially during drier periods, the overall layout retains a strong competitive edge, rewarding players who balance power with shot-making finesse.

Pagosa Springs Golf Club is equipped with a clubhouse that serves as the social hub for members and guest players, though amenities are modest compared to larger resorts. The driving range and practice facilities, while available, experience fluctuating accessibility, so visitors should plan accordingly. Carts are available by request, though walking remains the preferred mode of play for those seeking to absorb the course’s natural rhythm.

This course suits intermediate to advanced golfers willing to engage with its subtle challenges rather than those looking for pristine conditions and extensive service offerings. The setting inspires a connection to the rugged southwestern Colorado landscape, inviting players to pace their round thoughtfully and embrace the nuances of elevation and terrain.

For any golfer making the trip, it’s wise to schedule tee times well in advance and prepare for variable course conditions. Robust footwear and a flexible game plan will enhance the experience. While pricing is on the higher side compared to similar regional courses, this club remains a crucial part of the Pagosa Springs golf scene and offers an authentic mountain golf venue.

Course Highlights

The course features sweeping views of the San Juan Mountains and a mix of mesa-top fairways framed by juniper and sparse pine. Elevated tee boxes create challenging uphill and downhill shots. Variable wind conditions demand thoughtful club selection. The 27-hole layout allows players to mix and match nines for diverse playing experiences.

As of 7/3/2025 the course is in great shape. There are some wet spots in the fairways and some tee boxes are beat up, but overall the course is in good condition. Fairways are soft and the greens are pretty smooth. The layout is awesome. Some cool elevated tee shots and challenging holes. The price is too high for the inconsistency in the course but it’s worth paying while on vacation for the great views. The no cancellation policy is brutal. If someone in your booking gets sick, you can’t get a refund even 2 weeks out.

Staff was great, friendly. Course was the worst I’ve ever seen it. Been playing it every summer for over 20 years and was looking forward to playing it again. Big disappointment! Greens are terrible, course overall is not in good shape. Way too expensive for the product they are offering.

IN TERRIBLE SHAPE, BUT AT LEAST ITS EXPENSIVE I played here a couple of weeks ago, and the course was in terrible shape. Many of the greens are burnt out, but don't worry, the rough around most of the tee boxes get plenty of water and look good. You wouldn't guess this based on the astronomical prices - $92 for 18 holes, $73 for 9 holes... And these are the cheaper prices you get when booking online. If you call or book in person, you pay even more. Driving range is also in terrible shape, it looks like you will only be able to hit off of mats again for the second straight year. They will still charge you $17 for a large bucket of balls though, or possibly even more. Pagosa Springs Golf Club sure has a lot of nerve charging so much, for such a bad product. For comparison sake, I played at Sandia Golf Club (NM) the week prior for the same price. The course was immaculate, and the range access was included. Hillcrest Golf Club (Durango) is in much better shape, cheaper, and friendlier. Some of the staff are friendly (like Jim in the pro shop), but most of the folks who work here act like you are bothering them. If you are a tourist and have to play here, I get it... but I would still encourage you to look elsewhere. For locals, its a real drag that this is our local course. I have played at many courses, and even worked at one. Pagosa's course is by far the worst ran course I've experienced. - can't walk without a membership - can't tee off before 8 am - can't tee off after 5 pm - driving range closes promptly at 5 pm (sometimes sooner) even on the longest day of the year - 27 holes, which often look empty, yet you always seem to be backed up - no water coolers ('Covid took them away') - no cart person - etc... Sadly this is just another Pagosa business that will take your business for granted. They know that they are the only game in town, and couldn't care less about you, so long as you just give them your money.

Greens are half dead as well as the fairways and driving range closed whenever they feel like it I guess... went out to hit balls twice this week on vacation in mid afternoon only to find out it was closed. Sounds like the owner either doesn't care or doesn't have the $$ to take care of it properly and not motivated to serve the local golfers.. Whatever the reason, it's not worth $100 per round.

The people were friendly and respectful. They were waiting and the top of the hill with our golf carts for our tee time. I feel they were a little overpriced compared to other courses. the Greens and fairways were not in the best shape, but it could be due to the season. It's a beautiful course and the experience and staff made up for that.

Great 27-hole course. In early August, it was in fantastic shape!! Bravo to the staff. Go play!! 7/2023: They're expanding the deck and have added a BBQ menu. 6/2024: The new deck is great. Huge views! The BBQ is excellent, and they ship in aged post-oak to smoke. 6/2025: The greens on Ponderosa are not good. Pinion and Meadows are great!
