Eagle Haven Golf Course

Virginia Beach, Virginia, USASouthside Virginia

Eagle Haven Golf Course offers an 18-hole challenge on military grounds in Virginia Beach, combining coastal influences with strategic water hazards. Known for its responsive bentgrass greens and well-kept bunkers, this course tests precision in a compact, approachable layout suited to a diverse range of golfers.

Course Overview

Eagle Haven Golf Course offers a distinctive golf experience set within the military grounds of Little Creek in Virginia Beach, VA. This 18-hole layout presents a compact yet demanding challenge, blending water hazards and well-maintained bunkers that will test precision and strategy from the opening tee to the final green. The course’s landscape exposes players to an unvarnished coastal environment, where the interplay of water and wind plays a defining role, especially for those aiming to tame the bentgrass greens known for their responsiveness to spin and control.

Designed for players who appreciate a layout that rewards accuracy over power, Eagle Haven is approachable yet unforgiving in spots. The fairly tight fairways are guarded by water features on multiple holes, imposing a need for disciplined shotmaking. While the course can stretch a player’s skill set, the relatively short total yardage creates an inviting atmosphere for mid-to-high handicappers seeking a test without overwhelming distance.

The conditioning shows a work-in-progress character; greens generally hold up well, reflecting the efforts of recent maintenance improvements. Some tee boxes, particularly on the white tees, lack grass cover, which can influence footing and lie consistency. Sand bunkers are in remarkably good condition, offering a crisp contrast to the softer rough and overall terrain. The driving range, located adjacent to the first hole, is functional but basic, lacking nets and occasionally spilling balls onto the fairway, which demands care during initial tee shots.

Eagle Haven’s clubhouse enhances the experience with a welcoming pro shop and Pub 19, a casual spot for relaxation before or after rounds, though its early closing hours warrant timing your visit accordingly. The course operates a cashless system, aligning with modern convenience yet requiring planning.

Walking is encouraged and feasible given the course footprint, though players should prepare for variable ground conditions, particularly in wetter months. Military affiliation shapes access policies, granting play primarily to service members, which fosters a strong community feel amid the challenging yet fair golfing arena.

For golfers ready to embrace a course that favors finesse over brute strength, Eagle Haven presents a raw, coastal challenge framed by practical amenities and a spirited local vibe.

Course Highlights

Eagle Haven is distinguished by its bentgrass greens that allow for nuanced putting, well-maintained bunkers that emphasize shot placement, and strategic water hazards dispersed throughout the course. The course’s compact design encourages thoughtful play over distance, while its location within the military base infuses a unique camaraderie among players.

Some muddy wet spots and standing water in bunkers on a day that had no rain. Other than that, a decent short track for little money. Really can't beat it. Driving range leaves much to be desired and the I didn't see any grounds crew through my entire round. Not sure anyone was on today. Water jugs were all empty and the ball washing stations smell like swamp. Positives: bent grass greens were very receptive to spin and control. Rough cut pretty short and easy to play from. Tee boxes were all in decent shape

Eagle Haven has some the best greens on the Southside. The sand traps are in the best condition that I have seen lately. It is a very demanding course no matter what tees you play from. Ed Collins has done a great even though he hasn't been there that long.

The staff was friendly, and the shop was nice. The course is a little rough looking, and the tee boxes are pretty much all dirt! The porta potty needed to be cleaned out. Then, my door in the inside restroom wouldn't lock or stay shut. The price was good, and we still had fun, but the course needs some work.

I golf here all the time. I love the course and the people who golf here. Feels exclusive. You must be military to golf here btw.

This was my first time playing this course and if you’re not hitting the ball very well, this course can be pretty challenging. It’s on the Little Creek base. Plenty of water hazards throughout the course. There are bunkers throughout the course as well, especially around a majority of the greens and the bunkers are in great condition. The course overall was in good condition except for a few tee boxes didn’t have any grass and a couple of greens had some bad spots. Also, the driving range is right next to the 1st hole and the range doesn’t have a net so there was multiple range balls along the first hole making it more difficult than it needed to be to find your ball if you hit it down the left side of the hole. The club house is really nice on the inside, with pub 19 and the pro shop inside. Just a heads up, everything is cashless, they only take card payments. The biggest downside about pub19 is that they close at 2pm everyday, so for anyone playing late morning to afternoon probably won’t be able to get any food or drinks after their rounds. Overall, the course has a very nice layout! They just need to work on some of the tee boxes(whites) and a couple of the greens. Well worth the money compared to other courses in the area.

Fond memories of this place when it was in 4 star condition. Currently 2 star condition. Tee boxes devoid of grass. Greens full of crab grass. These things need to improve to counter balance a strange layout with several holes on the front and back 9 paralleling one another.
