Eagle Haven Golf Course
Eagle Haven Golf Course in Virginia Beach provides a military-affiliated 18-hole parkland layout known for its challenging water hazards and bent grass greens. This accessible course balances strategy with playability, delivering an engaging round for golfers comfortable navigating a course that rewards accuracy and thoughtful shot selection.
Course Overview
Located within Virginia Beach’s Little Creek Naval Base, Eagle Haven Golf Course offers a distinctive military-operated 18-hole layout that challenges and rewards players seeking a spirited round without a heavy price tag. This public-access track is primarily reserved for military personnel and their guests, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere paired with a no-frills golfing experience appreciated by many regional players.
Eagle Haven unfolds as a parkland-style course with water hazards scattered strategically throughout its gently rolling terrain. The design demands accuracy—water comes into play on numerous holes, and well-placed bunkers guard the greens, adding to the strategic choices players must make from tee to putting surface. Bent grass greens stand out as one of the course’s finest features, providing receptive putting conditions that allow for controlled spin and subtle breaks.
While some tee boxes currently show wear, with patches of dirt evident, and certain greens display occasional rough spots, the overall conditioning of the course remains solid, especially considering its accessibility and cost. The fairways are typically forgiving, with shorter rough that makes recovery feasible even for mid-handicap players. This balance positions Eagle Haven as a venue approachable for golfers of various skill levels, but its layout still demands respect from those seeking to test their shot-making and course management.
The course is accompanied by a clubhouse housing a pro shop and Pub 19, which serves as a casual spot for meals and refreshments, though its early afternoon closing time limits post-round dining options. The driving range, while functional, is located adjacent to the first tee and lacks a protective net, which can occasionally complicate play off the opening tee.
For those walking the course, the gently rolling fairways and moderately paced pace of play provide a rewarding and manageable physical outing. Players should wear sturdy footwear to navigate some damp areas, especially after rain.
Eagle Haven offers a straightforward yet strategic golf experience deeply tied to its military context, making it a worthwhile course for those eligible to play and eager for a competitive round with the chance to enjoy finely tuned greens and challenging hazards in a relaxed setting.
Course Highlights
Bent grass greens widely praised for their receptiveness and spin control, a mix of strategic water hazards that influence club selection, bunkers positioned to protect most greens, and a straightforward parkland layout that blends challenge with accessibility within a military base setting.

Some muddy wet spots and standing water in bunkers on a day that had no rain. Other than that, a decent short track for little money. Really can't beat it. Driving range leaves much to be desired and the I didn't see any grounds crew through my entire round. Not sure anyone was on today. Water jugs were all empty and the ball washing stations smell like swamp. Positives: bent grass greens were very receptive to spin and control. Rough cut pretty short and easy to play from. Tee boxes were all in decent shape

The staff was friendly, and the shop was nice. The course is a little rough looking, and the tee boxes are pretty much all dirt! The porta potty needed to be cleaned out. Then, my door in the inside restroom wouldn't lock or stay shut. The price was good, and we still had fun, but the course needs some work.

Eagle Haven has some the best greens on the Southside. The sand traps are in the best condition that I have seen lately. It is a very demanding course no matter what tees you play from. Ed Collins has done a great even though he hasn't been there that long.

I golf here all the time. I love the course and the people who golf here. Feels exclusive. You must be military to golf here btw.

This was my first time playing this course and if you’re not hitting the ball very well, this course can be pretty challenging. It’s on the Little Creek base. Plenty of water hazards throughout the course. There are bunkers throughout the course as well, especially around a majority of the greens and the bunkers are in great condition. The course overall was in good condition except for a few tee boxes didn’t have any grass and a couple of greens had some bad spots. Also, the driving range is right next to the 1st hole and the range doesn’t have a net so there was multiple range balls along the first hole making it more difficult than it needed to be to find your ball if you hit it down the left side of the hole. The club house is really nice on the inside, with pub 19 and the pro shop inside. Just a heads up, everything is cashless, they only take card payments. The biggest downside about pub19 is that they close at 2pm everyday, so for anyone playing late morning to afternoon probably won’t be able to get any food or drinks after their rounds. Overall, the course has a very nice layout! They just need to work on some of the tee boxes(whites) and a couple of the greens. Well worth the money compared to other courses in the area.

Fond memories of this place when it was in 4 star condition. Currently 2 star condition. Tee boxes devoid of grass. Greens full of crab grass. These things need to improve to counter balance a strange layout with several holes on the front and back 9 paralleling one another.
