SunRiver Golf Club

St. George, Utah, USASouthern Utah

SunRiver Golf Club in St. George blends desert influence with parkland style over 18 holes of approachable golf. Wide fairways and natural red rock scenery create a relaxed game with panoramic views, although players should be prepared for varied green conditions that add subtle challenges.

Course Overview

SunRiver Golf Club in St. George, Utah offers an 18-hole public layout that blends desert and parkland elements in a setting defined by wide fairways and natural red rock formations. While the course tests shot placement more than raw power, it remains accessible to a broad spectrum of golfers seeking a relaxed but thoughtful round amid the striking landscape of southern Utah. The design emphasizes straightforward routing with generous landing areas, making it approachable for mid and higher handicaps while still offering subtle challenges to more experienced players.

The surrounding scenery is a defining feature, with rust-colored cliffs framing holes as golfers navigate through gently rolling terrain. The course’s fairways are generally well cared for, presenting smooth lies for approach shots, though the condition of the greens has received mixed feedback, with some players noting uneven surfaces and sand-infused areas that influence putting strategy. These variable green conditions contribute an unpredictable layer that requires focused attention on pace and line.

Amenities include a modest clubhouse offering essential services and cart rentals, facilitating comfortable walking rounds or easy riding experiences across the manageable topography. With only one restroom located midway between the 7th and 17th holes, players should plan accordingly. Pace of play tends to move steadily, a benefit for visitors aiming to complete their round within a reasonable timeframe.

While it lacks a single standout hole, the course’s appeal lies in its consistent, even-keeled layout paired with panoramic views unique to the region. Wind occasionally factors in as an additional challenge, gently testing control over mid and long irons. SunRiver Golf Club is well suited for golfers prioritizing value and scenic golf in St. George, offering an honest test without the pressure of a demanding championship track.

Those planning a visit should prepare for moderate temperatures and bring extra water. Walking is welcomed, and soft-soled shoes will aid footing on both turf and sandy areas. This course fits well into a broader exploration of golf in southern Utah, providing a steady, enjoyable round even when conditions are less than perfect.

Course Highlights

The course features a blend of desert and parkland terrain, marked by wide fairways framed by red rock formations characteristic of southern Utah. While there is no single signature hole, the route offers steady challenges through strategically placed bunkers and variable wind conditions. The landscape’s natural character shapes a course that is both approachable and scenic, suited to golfers seeking a relaxed yet engaging round.

Many years ago when my parents first moved to Sunriver, I took my dad's golf cart after hours on the course and there was a cow on the golf cart path. I drove it back home to my dad who called the pro shop and we're told that happens all the time we'll go out and fix it. I drove the golf cart and back to see this gentleman using an umbrella to shoo the cow back onto the property where it was supposed to be. We got permission to take our dogs after hours out on the course and allow them to run around and we did it every night and it was a wonderful exercise for the dogs. We occasionally would run into the maintenance guys who took their dogs with them when they worked and it was so fun to watch them run through the sprinklers. After a couple years came back to visit only to find there was no rabbits or wildlife anywhere on the course and I found out that they had put poison in the grass to kill them. Later one night the owner came flying up in his golf cart and screaming at me to get off his golf course.. This was news to me and I found out later that he had gotten into bankruptcy. I heard that the bankruptcy got rescued by the Sunriver organization which is I believe paid for by the members of it which blows me away that they don't get free time on the course to play. The last couple years I found out they went to the extent of blocking off every entrance from the residences paths that used to allow them to take their golf carts after hours and enjoy it. Such a sad demise. From what I understand most of the residents go to other golf courses.

Horrible course conditions. Tee boxes were in rough shape! Was the most expensive course and in worst shape of all the courses we played in St George. Starter and pro shop rushed us out before our actual tee time stating they were behind schedule. So why push us out early and then we wait 5-10 mins on every tee box for groups in front of us!

By far the worst greens I have ever seen or played in my entire life. The fairways were either in typical condition you find on a golf course in this area(well kept) or they were awful and ugly the closer you get to the green. We made plans to come to St George for the holiday weekend to play as many courses in the area we could and instantly regretted wasting our money here. We will never come here again and would recommend to everyone else to go find a different course. Even if they offer you to play for $10, it is not worth it.

Do not play. You’ve been warned. $89 is rip off.

This is an average course for St.george. Here's why it gets 2 stars, and that's being generous. Slightly more expensive. Than other courses of the same caliber. There was no stand out hole. They all just kind of blend together. The greens were in terrible shape. Same with the fringes. The only thing in good shape were the fairways. 9/10 there. One bathroom on the course between 7 and 17. Bird crap all over those two holes. That concludes this review. There are better courses to play for the same price or lower.

Course was in overall good shape, minus the fringe area which was in poor condition for no obvious reason. The rest of the course was in great shape. The price was very reasonable considering it included a cart. The pace of play was very good and didn't see a single staff member or marshall the entire time. Views were excellent and the course was a good challenge.

These greens were not in good shape. They told us when we arrived from SLC that the greens were punched and they would understand if we left and didn’t want to play. How would we get another tee time on vacation during spring break? The greens were sanded with rocks. I couldn’t even use my putter because the rocks in the sand were so big. The greens were unplayable and the course told us that they would not be offering a deal for the greens being in such bad shape. Paying full price for these greens was absolutely terrible.
